Specific Contribution to the Research:
Professor (Dr.) Sanjib Kumar Datta has been working in several branches of Pure Mathematics namely Complex Analysis, Fuzzy Algebra, Operator Theory etc.
Prof. Datta has made a notable contribution to the field of Complex Analysis. He specially works on the following topics: (i) Growth of entire and meromorphic functions, (ii) Deficiency of meromorphic functions, (iii) Order and type of meromorphic functions and their extensions, (iv) Maximum term of composite entire functions and (v) Exponent of convergence of entire functions.
In course of the study of growths of composite entire and meromorphic functions, Prof. Datta has established an unforeseen connection between the growth properties of differentials monomials, wronskians and differentials polynomials generated by one of the factors. He has also proved some remarkable results on the growths of entire algebroidal functions and entire functions of L-bounded index and of non uniform L-bounded index where L=L(r) is a slowly changing functions i.e. L(ar) ~ L(r) as r tends to ∞ for every positive constant ‘a’. Some new results on the comparative growth properties of entire functions satisfying second order linear differential equations as well as using the concept of relative (p,q)-th order, p and q being any two positive integers have also been proved by Prof. Datta.
Improving some earlier theorems, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjib Kumar Datta has further established some new results on relative Nevanlinna and Valiron deficiencies of meromorphic functions. He investigated the value distribution of transcendental meromorphic functions by means of their proximate deficiences. Considering two different meromorphic functions having common roots he found some relations involing their relative defects. He further studied the value distribution of differential monomials, differential polynomials and wronskians generated by transcendental polynomials and wronskians generated by transcendental meromorphc functions in terms of their proximate deficiences.
Prof. Datta also investigated deeply on the order and type of meromorphic functions. His contribution in this area is the study of meromorphic functions of order zero, weak type of meromorphic functions and type of meromorphic functions with order zero or infinity.
The works of Prof. Datta also include the study of L-order and L*-order of entire functions on the basis of their maximum terms.
Extending the idea of classical exponent of convergence, he introduced the notion of L-(p,q)-th exponent of convergence of zeros of entire functions where p and q are positive integers with p> q and established some new theorems improving earlier results.
Apart from his research in Complex Analysis, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjib Kumar Datta has some special contribution in the field of Fuzzy Algebra. He introduced the notion of Fuzzy bi-ideal in a ring, fuzzy left (right) simple ring, fuzzy bi-ideal free ring and proved some new results in various directions. He also coined the concept of anti fuzzy bi-ideal in a ring R and established a necessary and sufficient condition for a fuzzy subset μ for a ring R to be an anti fuzzy bi-ideal of R in terms of its lower level set. Prof. Datta further studied fuzzy magnified translation in rings and hemirings and improve some earlier results.
In the field of Operator Theory, Prof. Datta has established certain common fixed point theorems for a pair of weakly compatible mappings satisfying some special properties in the bicomplex valued metric spaces. This is in fact a new dimensional research in the area of Operator Theory.
In the area of Fluid Dynamics, Prof. Datta has made a significant contribution which in fact has built a bridge between the works of the application of complex analysis and the flows of fluids. These works have also been carried out under the treatment of a modern dimensional aspect of complex analysis termed as bicomplex analysis.
