Theme: "Navigating the PEP Landscape: Teaching and Assessing Comprehension in the Content Areas"
This workshop focused on enhancing comprehension strategies across three major subjects: Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science. Hosted by the School of General Education & Professional Studies in collaboration with the Schools of Natural Science and Languages & Literatures, the event provided practical tools for teachers preparing students for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP). Participants registered at 8:30 a.m. at the CTC Students’ Lounge in Mandeville. The session emphasized applicable instructional strategies and was geared toward strengthening assessment and pedagogy for the PEP curriculum.
Theme: “Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence”
This milestone event celebrated the 60-year legacy of Church Teachers’ College. The collage of images suggests a vibrant celebration involving past and present students, cultural performances, and academic excellence. It honored the institution’s history and contribution to teacher education in Jamaica. The event reflected pride in tradition and commitment to continued excellence in education.
Theme: "Differentiation: The Educators’ Kit for the 21st Century Classroom"
Led by keynote speaker Dr. Margaret Chin, Assistant Secretary General of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, this workshop explored innovative classroom differentiation techniques. The event aimed to equip educators with tools to meet diverse learning needs in modern classrooms. Held in the CTC Students’ Lounge at 8:30 a.m., it included interactive discussions and strategy-sharing among teachers. The focus was on practical applications of differentiation to boost engagement and improve student outcomes.
Both events were held on the same day at the same venue, likely as part of a broader worship arts program.
The masterclass focused on practical skills for worship teams, while the choir tour offered a musical performance.
The external moderator workshop for CXC Home Economics focused on standardizing the assessment of School-Based Assessments (SBAs) across the region. During the session, moderators reviewed the CXC marking criteria and discussed common trends observed in students' work. There was also a strong emphasis on ensuring fairness, consistency, and accuracy when moderating samples from schools. Key challenges in areas like food preparation techniques, garment construction, and presentation of portfolios were highlighted and discussed.
Moderators were reminded of the importance of providing constructive feedback to teachers and schools to help improve the quality of submissions. The workshop also included training on the use of the new digital platforms for submitting marks and uploading samples. Overall, the session was informative and collaborative, helping moderators feel better prepared for the 2024 SBA moderation process.
