The first floor of the Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) building houses the UNC Chapel Hill NORC Clinical and Community Human Assessment and Interventions Core. This clinical research core features a clinical suite equipped with a Biolis 24 Chemistry Analyzer capable of performing 100 diagnostic chemistry tests, as well as a Beckman Coulter hematology analyzer. Additionally, it includes a 320 square foot Body Composition Laboratory with a Lunar iDXA (GE Healthcare), BOD POD and PeaPOD (Cosmed USA Inc), Metabolic Carts (ParvoMedics), and a whole-room calorimeter (Advanced Biosolutions). We collaborate with them on human studies.
The 1,200 square foot Metabolic Research Kitchen is located on the first floor of the NRI, directly across from the Clinical Research Core. It is equipped with four independent workstations and is used to prepare and deliver meals with precise composition. We may request permission to use the kitchen for our human studies needs.
The vivarium is located at the North Carolina Research Campus and offers approximately 20,000 square feet of space for housing animals. This area is divided into animal rooms, small animal surgical suites, special procedure rooms, a histopathology and necropsy laboratory, a dosing laboratory, and other support units. We collaborate with veterinarians and visit the facility to conduct animal studies.
