At the heart of my work as an instructional designer is a simple idea: building bridges. I bridge the distance between complex subject matter and clear, structured learning experiences. Technical experts often hold a wealth of valuable knowledge, but that knowledge doesn’t always translate easily into effective training. My role is to connect those two sides, transforming complex information into lessons that are engaging, practical, and easy for learners to apply.
A large part of how I do this comes down to people. I connect easily with others and naturally look for ways to understand different perspectives. This helps me collaborate effectively with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and team members. I value fairness, clear communication, and mutual respect, and I often find myself helping teams navigate challenges or conflicting viewpoints so that we can stay focused on building the best learning solution.
Communication and storytelling are also central to my approach. Some of the most effective learning happens when people can see themselves in the situation being taught. I enjoy crafting scenarios and narratives that allow learners to step into the moment, walking through decisions, actions, and outcomes so they become active participants in their own learning experience. Finding the right phrase or the perfect combination of words to capture attention and spark curiosity is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
Just as important as creativity is reliability. When I make a commitment, I follow through. Meeting deadlines, respecting timelines, and delivering what I promise are essential to building trust with the people and organizations I work with.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family. Whether hiking, biking, snorkeling or scuba diving, or simply playing with my dog, I appreciate the beauty and freedom that nature provides.
