For the proposed edited book
Remote Sensing and GIS for Planning and Management of Natural Disasters
CRC Press (Taylor and Francis)
Under book Series
Urban Remote Sensing for Energy and Environmental Sustainability
Natural disasters like landslides, floods, forest fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. are responsible for huge economic losses and loss of lives. So, there is a need for proper planning and management of the natural disaster to minimize the losses. Remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have emerged as efficient tools for planning and management of natural disasters. The aim of this book is to explore the different applications of remote sensing and GIS for the planning and management of natural hazards. The GIS and remote sensing techniques can not only provide efficient management solutions for natural disasters but can help in optimizing the cost of the projects. The book will present cutting-edge research and case studies showcasing the integration of remote sensing and GIS for disaster planning and management solutions. The book abstracts and after acceptance full chapters are invited on the following topics (but not limited to):
Part I (Covered by Editors)
· Background/ Introduction of the Natural Disasters
· Introduction to Remote Sensing and GIS
· Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing in Natural Disaster Planning and Management
Part II
· Remote sensing and GIS-based natural hazard monitoring
The chapter may discuss the implementation of remote sensing data and GIS for monitoring natural hazards like landslides, floods, wildfires, etc.
· Natural Hazard Event Inventories
The theme of the chapter may align with applications of GIS and remote sensing for the preparation of landslide and flood inventories. The field-based inventories and satellite database inventories can be discussed in this chapter. Deep learning and machine learning techniques can be integrated into the preparation of inventories.
· Natural Disaster Susceptibility Mapping
The theme of the chapter may align with applications of GIS and remote sensing for the preparation of landslide, flood, and forest fire susceptibility maps. The qualitative, semi-qualitative, and quantitative techniques for natural disaster susceptibility mapping can be discussed. The qualitative, semi-qualitative, and quantitative techniques can be discussed in different chapters with some case studies.
· Hazard and Risk Assessment
The theme of the chapter may align with the applications of mathematical modeling and statistical models for landslide and flood hazard and risk assessment.
· Machine Learning and ANN for Natural Hazard Assessment
Modern techniques like machine learning and neural networks can be discussed in this chapter. The comparison of different algorithms in the mapping and management of natural hazards can be presented here.
· Climate Change and Natural Hazards
This chapter discusses and models the impact of climate change on the different natural hazards. The pattern of flooding, landslides, wildfires, etc. can be discussed in the form of case studies.
· Early Warning Systems
The chapter may focus on the application of satellite data for the preparation of landslide early warning systems and flood warning systems. New approaches to making early warning systems can be discussed here.
