UPDATE ON FLASH FLOOD WATCH
...Issued at 234 AM MDT Tue Oct 2 2018 via NWS...
The storm is projected to move through the area from southwest to northeast early this evening to just after midnight. Believe the bulk of the precipitation will fall in that time period with estimated amounts of 0.5 up to 2 inches. Locally higher amounts are possible especially over the San Juan mountains, where the highest potential for flash flooding, and mud and debris flows exists. Conditions should gradually improve from west to east late tonight through Wednesday.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...
The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* A portion of southwest Colorado, including the following areas, Northwest San Juan Mountains and Southwest San Juan Mountains.
* From late tonight through Wednesday morning with periodic breaks in rainfall expected.
* Tropical moisture associated with the remnants of Hurricane Rosa will surge northeast into southwest Colorado beginning early Tuesday providing scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms that will produce heavy rainfall. 1 to 2 inches of rain are expected with localized areas of 4 inches. These rainfall totals may lead to flash flooding, mud slides, and debris flows.
* Residents near any burn scars, especially the 416, Burro, and slot canyons, or normally dry washes should prepare for
potential flooding impacts on Tuesday. Be sure to stay up to date with the latest information from local authorities.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

As of June 17, 2018 San Juan County residents are under no evacuation notice. The shelter in Silverton is on Standby.

An evacuation center and shelter is open 24 hours a day at Escalante Middle School, 141 Baker Lane, in Durango. Evacuated residents are asked to check in at the evacuation center to receive credentials for re-entry when conditions allow the evacuation order to be lifted.
- Livestock can be evacuated to the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 2500 Main Avenue. The emergency call center at (970) 385-8700 can help coordinate pick-up of livestock. Small animals are being accepted at the La Plata County Humane Society, 1111 South Camino del Rio, Durango (970) 259-2847.
