In a working paper, tentatively titled Accessing Justice: Empirical Evidence from Karnataka, we study roadblocks to accessing justice. For this, we compile a unique data set of 1 million cases filed in police stations across the state of Karnataka, between 2017 and 2021. We append to this microdata other datasets to give insight into how identity and other socio-economic characteristics pose hurdles to grievance redressal. In the choropleth visualization below, we show the number of FIRs filed in each district by year.
In the paper titled Fertility and financial development: an analysis of Indian households, we studied the relationship between fertility and financial development using the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4) data for the year 2015–2016. We examined the old-age security hypothesis to explain fertility rates amongst Indian women.
Here, we present an interactive plot with the points representing the approximate (anonymized) location of the surveyed persons, the size of the point representing the average bank access index, and the colour of the point representing the fertility rate (average number of children).
