TMTA Theory Test

SPRING TESTING INFORMATION

Entry Deadline: Friday, December 13, 2019

Test Date: Saturday, January 25, 2020

Entry fee: $13.00 per student

For both testing periods, the testing location will be at the UTSA Music Building. Please watch your email for any changes that might occur. All deadlines are postmark dates.

Rules and Requirements

1. Students MUST be enrolled as Student Affiliate members for 2019-2020 (See instructions in the Student Affiliate section). **IMPORTANT** PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK THE STUDENT’S SCHOOL GRADE BEFORE ENTERING IT ON THE ENTRY FORM. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME YOUR STUDENT AFFILIATE CHECK! IT WILL BE RETURNED.
2. Register online at www.samusicteachers.org (preferred method). A link to the form is also posted on the SAMTA Facebook page. Hardcopy entry from are available from the Theory chairperson if you are absolutely unable to register online. Be sure to request these forms in time to meet the entry deadline. The entry fee for each student is $13.00. Make one check payable to SAMTA for the total number of entries from your studio. Entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be carried over to the next test. Mail the check, a copy of the completed registration form, and a copy of the completed cover sheet (if mailing a hardcopy registration from) to:

1. Teachers who enter students are REQUIRED to be present on the day of the theory test to assist with testing. If a teacher is unable to work a shift, another teacher (NOT a parent) must be sent as a substitute. A teacher who does not work and does not send an approved substitute will be subject to a $100.00 penalty fee. (Non-payment of this penalty will result in being prohibited from entering students in the Theory Tests the following year.) [Passed by the Executive Board, August 2011.]
2. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE ENTRY DEADLINE. NO CHANGES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE TESTS ARE ORDERED. Teachers are responsible for adhering to the postmark date, and for finding out the school grade and test level of their students before completing the entry form. Students must either take the theory test at the level entered (grade level or below) or forfeit the opportunity to take the test altogether.
3. Students will receive their tests and should be notified of their test scores within 2-3 weeks of taking the test. Use your best judgment when entering students in the test. If a student is testing to qualify for a state event, please double-check registration due dates for those events to determine when a student should test. Students have the option of testing in the fall and re-testing in the spring for a chance at a higher score/medal. Please do keep in mind that entry fees submitted cannot be refunded. Feel free to call the chairperson if you need to discuss specific situations.
4. There is no official make-up test for either testing session this year. If your student has an impossible conflict of the day of the test, please contact the chair for other options.
