Samuel Smithers, PhD

I am currently working as an Executive within Deloitte's Economic Consultancy division. All work and views presented are my own and not representative of my employer.

I am an experimental economist whose main interests lie in non-monetary incentives and productivity. In recent times I have focused on studying the effects of setting non-binding goals on workers effort provision on a given task. Please take a look at my research section for my publications and working papers for more information.

I was previously working as an Economic Adviser for the Department of Work and Pensions' Research and Experimental Design Team. There I designed and evaluated large scale Randomised Control Trails and pilots.

I completed my PhD studies in Economics at the University of Leicester in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Sanjit Dhami, Prof. Ali al-Nowaihi and Dr. Alexander Smith.

During my time at the University of Leicester I set up and managed the now Leicester Experimental Economic Laboratory (LExEcon), actively recruiting, running and programming experiments using z-Tree for my own and others research projects.

My publication entitled "Goals, Motivation and Gender" received positive media coverage including a live interview on BBC Radio Leicester, and press coverage including The Telegraph, Daily Mail and other online outlets.
