Samuel Boundy is a cellist based . He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where he studied with Tanya Remenikova, and a Master of Music in Cello Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott and was a studio teaching assistant.
He is a member of the cello sections of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and New Bedford Symphony, and serves as Assistant Principal of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. He was recently runner up for Principal of the Albany Symphony and plays with Albany, the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine, and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. He has performed solos at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and The Met Museum.
Front Row Center wrote of a recent Carnegie Hall performance that his playing showed “heightened sensitive phrasing on cello” and that in Largo sostenuto “his opening cello lines ushered in a haunting beauty.”
He can be heard on recordings with Gil Shaham on the album The Lost Generation and on the Deutsche Grammophon Grammy‑nominated soundtrack for the film Maestro, where he also appears on screen.
Samuel also teaches privately.
