So here I'm with printer issue. On samsung page you can download their samsung-unified-driver but I will not install due some error that it can't find cups to restart it.

Could this be initd vs systemd issue ?

Presumably you did read the arch wiki page at ? There is also the splix package that may work instead of relying on the samsung unified driver. I have a different Samsung printer and use splix. I do have to admit that I have been having some issues since cups 2.0 was released. What I find now is that in general I need to restart the cups service using (as root)

Also by default the cups service runs as a socket activated service now so it is org.cups.cupsd.socket that is enabled at boot and in principle it should start the org.cups.cupsd.service when a printer is plugged in.

If you start the service org.cups.cupsd as above, and then also try to start the service you found for your printer (systemctl restart configure-printer@usb-007-004.service as root) and then unplug your printer, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in, does the cups service then see the printer? Check on a browser by going to the url localhost:631 and check on the printers tab. Depending on which desktop environment you are running you may be able to configure your printer from the settings (eg in kde under the menu at bottom left going to system settings then printers should allow you to check the setup for your printer). I have not used the samsung unified printers for a long time but I did find that I needed to pull out the samsung raster driver file and put it in the right place - in my case they are:

If you place those two files ( of course the raster and ppd files for your printer model), and then start the services above, you might be able to then set up the printer from the settings menu and tell it to use the splix drivers if you have the splix package installed (pacman -S splix though I note you are using yaourt).

Once you have the printer going with individual steps then of course it would be nice to get it running from boot or when the printer is plugged in without the need to mess with restarting systemd services - I am still fiddling with the latter for my machine!

(as root) do you get any failed services - if so it is possible that replugging the printer may have got the usb connection with a different numerical part and you may need to restart the service if it has a different name ( configure-printer@usb-008-004.service, say) - in which case make sure that is started.

This kind of problem chasing is frustrating but not all printers work immediately out of the box. I think that there remain some bugs in the newly released version of cups so more work will perhaps be needed - the first step is to do research, then ask for help in the forum or mailing list, and if there are problems that are beyond configuration errors then file bugs and things will get fixed.

It may also be worth googling for any bugs reported for this printer in arch linux. Arch is a distro where people get to know their system in a more intimate way than for some other distros - people will generally help where they can in this forum, and there is often a lot of info available in the wiki, as well as in the arch bug reports.

I think there may be a bug since the configure-printer@usb-007-00X.service with X incrementing each time you replug the printer is not sensible but occurs. However I don't know if the problem lies with cups or with systemd or somewhere else (like udev, which is linked to systemd). I certainly don't have a printer that works by simply turning it on either and have to fiddle just like you - however it seems that even if you get the services started correctly by using systemctl to restart the service listed above with the correct sequence number that you have not been able to access the drivers - at least I can get mine to run once all the services are started! It might be a good time to file a bug report on flyspray ( )

Apple decided to make the laser printer Samsung CLP 360 series dysfunctional over a night. No drivers provided for this model that can work with macos Big Sur anymore. In HP they admit that they are unable to find drivers for my product -en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-clp-360-color-laser-printer-series/17156859

CLP-360_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.02.00 were working fine with macos X 10.15 during the installation through Bonjour. But now they are not available anymore. I installed them by myself but the system can't detect them. So the printer is not working.

Apple is not responsible for third-party printer drivers. That is HP, who now owns the Samsung printer business, and may choose to prioritize newer printers for Big Sur support over older printers, and some printers will never receive newer drivers. Take that up with HP.

In order to rule out a hardware or software problem related to USB, it is sometimes interesting to carry out alternative tests with a network. Unfortunately, the M2020 is USB only. Do you possibly have access to an Ethernet-to-USB (or Wi-Fi-to-USB) print server, or an AirPort Express (or perhaps another router with a USB printer port), that could be used for an experiment? I say experiment, because the printer is probably not tested to be compatible with many such devices and macOS (but a Samsung Xpress SL-M2020 is at least mentioned in the TP-Link list at -link.com/2020/202004/20200430/PrinterCompatibilityList_20200430.pdf).

The idea would be to try a procedure similar to the Add a network printer by its IP address section in Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support. Also, see the How to install compatible driver section in -en/document/c06520117 in fine.

You are correct. The vendors must work together and most of them do. Apple had advised HP well in advance of the specific technical requirements of the upcoming Big Sur operating system, so the requirements were well known by HP. If HP declines to support Apple's customers, that is on them. Apple does not, and can not write printer driver software for the thousands of printers out there around the world since they do not own or have access to the proprietary software code of each printer model. It is unfortunate that you have to have this experience.

I have a suggestion which may help you. Check the link below where volunteers have written code for many older models of printers which the vendors no longer support. There may be one that works for you.

Apple upgrades are becoming like Microsoft. Every new upgrading breaks more than it fixes. my computer has become super slow and yes the 2 samsung printers i have couldn't be accessed and scanner didn't work till i figure out this shared on the network feature

I have the same problem with my EPSON XP 200. printer. Apple doesn't mention this when it invites you to update. Just install our fancy upgrade which makes your peripherals unworkable. The incompatibility is then your problem

Hi to all of you Mac geeks in Apple land. Big Sur update did nothing for the Mac Pro. (i movie update) Same problems. Mac Pro will not recognize Epson printer. Sometimes when shutting down, Mail opens and U have to force quit?. When we power up, the trash has (old news ) recovered files in it which are empty files. Photo quits unexpectedly?. Still NO

I have the same issue and can't use my printer with M1 silicon Macbook Air. It is a shame, printing technology is very old in IT and should not be an issue to have driver compatible at a time where we can execute any technology on any platform with such easy way. Special red lanterne to HP where you can't even open an incident ticket since first step is to give HP serial driver (but it is a Samsung printer bought by HP). HP also don't have such forum/blog like Apple. Apple did help me and tried to fix it over the phone (almost 2 hours).

I am new to linux and just installed Zorin Core on an Acer Aspire x3950 with i3 540 @ 3.07GHz, 4GB memory, Intel HD graphics, 1TB HD. It is dual booted with Win10 64bit. Zorin has 350GB on the HD. I am trying to install a Samsung CLX 3305FW Multifunction Printer that is on my home network. Zorin installed this printer automatically during installation so that was great.

I have tried installing another driver downloaded from HP for the Samsung printer into: Downloads/uld_V1.00.39_01.17.tar.gz and following the instructions -printers.html

that I originally followed from

I have tried this -18-04-samsung-printer-driver-install-guide/ but I have also run into other problems after running this:

sudo apt install suld-driver2-1.00.36

The error I get is it cannot install this because a dependancy is missing libusb-0.1-4.

I have the similar issues with the Simple Scanner with my Samsung M2070W Printer-Scanner. When I start Simple-Scanner, it seems to recognise that I am using a Samsung Scanner but wants me to install additional drivers.

When I first installed Zorin, the installation picked up my networked printer and installed it. I was happy to see it under Devices->Printers. And this was before I tried to install any other drivers for it or take the other steps I noted.

I have noticed that Zorin has installed a second Samsung printer called "driverless" today when I launched it. Not sure why -- it is all a mystery to me at this moment. In any case Simple Scan still does not see my printer.

Once these were reinstalled, I used the printer manager to find and install the networked printer.

This resulted in two semi-identical (this time) printers being installed again, with #2 popping up automatically once #1 was installed.

#1 called Samsung-CLX-3300 driverless;

#2 called Samsung_CLX_3300_Series_SEC001599D21FF6_

The packages on Synaptic are not printers - they are drivers and supporting files. If you remove one (or more) driver for a printer it simply means that the printer may still be recognized by Zorin but would use whatever remaining drivers it finds available.

In contrast, the system recognizes printers and displays/manages them using lpadmin and lpstat. ff782bc1db
