Both my S10+ and my wifes have recently started to play the Samsung Sound ringtone "over the horizon". It happens randomly, sometimes on both phones within a couple of minutes of each other. There is no incoming call or notification associated with the playing and it cannot be turned off, it repeats continually and can only be stopped by rebooting or turning off the phone. We have not installed any new apps. and the problem started at the same time with both phones. We've both had advice of system updates to 12UI. Can anyone help please?

The "IPL 2022" app was causing the problem for me... the Samsung over the horizon ringtone tone phenomenon started on my phone last week and goes on all night only to spend the whole evening to find out it was because of this poorly constructed app which does some backend uncatched ringing notification when a match is in progress.

The notification seems to not show up anywhere. I have recorded traces, logs, bug reports, checked every notification history option there is and downloaded every notification log app I could find and it does not show up in any of these platforms. it happens every single day and has been going on for a year or two for me. I have been reading almost every Forum post about this issue and it seems to date back to 2014 but so far, I haven't found any solutions yet that have worked on my phone. I've even tried deleting the ringtone file all together and still doesn't seem to help.

Ever since a very recent update, my Galaxy Buds ring is the generic ring, like a telephone. Before the update, the ringtone (as in the custom song/ringtone) would come through the Earbuds, Galaxy Buds. does anyone know why this is happening, and how to fix this.

So sorry for the delayed response. I feel like I misstated my goal. So you heave Buds in ear, paired and connected to the phone. Someone calls you. Currently, the rigtone goes through both the buds and the phone itself. The goal was to make it where the rington goes to the earbuds only and the phone itself doesn't make a sounds, so as not to disturb others if ringtone is loud (idk, it's for my dad and he can't hear all that well, so his ringer is on high).

Figured out solution: Mute phone. Ringtone will still go through buds.

Sorry for my confusion.

Currently when I get a call, I hear the ringtone/text-tone/email-tone/whatever through both the ear buds and the phone speakers simultaneously. I'm not referring to any sort of text to speech, just the song/chimes. Id like to make it where it does not come out of the phone speakers, but just the Galaxy Buds. I'm not trying to dismiss your comment. I appreciate your time and input. I just want to make sure my goal is clear.

I left the alarm vibrating and opened the phone's volume controls; the alarm volume was on (half way on the bar) and ringtone was off. I slid the ringtone volume up and there it was, my selected alarm song was playing.

I have a Samsung galaxy s21 5g phone. I have given several contacts custom MP3 ringtones. Despite setting this up correctly, when those contacts call it is not their individual ringtone that plays, but it is the system ringtone that plays for everyone else.

From looking through the posts, this seems to be a problem with Samsung newer phones. I've tried the suggestions from those posts and they don't work for the S22 Ultra. Does anyone know how to assign a specific ringtone to a group? Failing that, how do I assign a unique ringtone to a contact? I want to know when family is calling, but can't change the ringtone for one contact without it changing for all contacts.

I want to set a specific ringtone for a few contacts. I see how to do this for the S20 phones, but the S21 Ultra seems to have some changes in OS design that does not permit this. I understand I can create a group and have a ringtone for that group, but I wanted to select by contact and not have to have a bunch of groups of one contact.

Go into the Contacts app, not the phone icon. When I click on a contact, I choose the edit button at the bottom of the screen. Click on View More, scroll down to Ringtone, click on Ringtone and it should bring up the app to choose where to get your ringtone from. I use Ringo, but the SecSoundPicker is also an option. Choose a ringtone, back button and then save.

Hey Virginia and Longhiker, I did finally resolve the issue. Not sure why, but I just added a few more custom ringtones to my S21 Ultra (allready had one special ringtone I added to my phone) and now the Contacts Ringtone selection (Contact, Edit, View More, Ringtone) shows up!! Wow, I am confused, but I was now able to add a special ringtone.

I'm having this issue on my S21. I go to contacts, say add ringtone, get sent to soundpicker to choose the song - but whatever I choose, it says highlights isnt available with this file and then that the sound player doesnt support this type of audio file. It's a regular MP3, what am I doing wrong!

Most of my ringtones I created, moved, are 20kb to 200kb, but the largest is 2,333kb (2.333mb). So unless you file size is huge you should have a pretty large latitude for file sizes. Each of my ringtones has a rate of 44.1kHz. Hope that helps!

By uninstalling apps I discovered one I had downloaded, ES File Explorer Manager, that added an extra step of using it (shows file tree) or Media Storage (correct choice to directly access the default ringtones) from the Sound, Ringtones menus. Now, the ring tones are shown when Media Storage is used. These were missing before. This should resolve my problem.

I have used that file explorer app for years and it hasn't hidden the default ringtones from selecting them. You do have to reset the default way to select the ringtones back to the media storage option and to remove the dialog asking which way to complete the action.

I Had same problem with my Droid Ultra Maxx & ES File Explorer. Ringtones present in Safe Mode, but not in normal mode. I Did not need to uninstall The app. Just cleared its data and cache. Then when I went to sound then phone ringtone, I was again given choice of opening with ES File Explorer or Media Explorer. Picked the second and all the default ringtones back on the list.

6. On the "Sound picker" screen, tap a song you want to use as a ringtone. The song will start playing so you can preview it. You can browse songs by track, album, artist, or folder using the tabs at the bottom of the screen, or search for a song using the Search button at the top of the screen.

Hi Ron, could you please verify this with GTS team? I know for fact this is not the case on my Fold3 Android 12, the phone uses my chosen ringtone while displaying background video that has no sound embedded. Plus, both incoming and outgoing call shows background video.

I'm working on a VoIP app and when a call comes in, the ringtone is not audible on at least a Samsung A20e and a Samsung A71 device running on Android 11. Unfortunately, this info came from a few users who say they experience the issue and the issue doesn't arise on all the phones I have access to, so I'm not able to look in the logs myself.

Then I read somewhere on the internet that ringtones never work on an emulator. However, I do have an emulator on which the ringtone is actually audible, so I'm not so sure that's true, at least not for every configuration.

I'll answer my own question. Turns out the client didn't describe the issue thorough enough and it turned out to be an easily solvable issue when he provided us with more information. The ringtone would be audible when the notification volume of the phone was on and the ringtone volume of the phone was off. However, when the notification volume was off and the ringtone volume was on, the ringtone wouldn't be audible. So the two of those got switched around, which got fixed by replacing AudioAttributes.USAGE_NOTIFICATION with AudioAttributes.USAGE_NOTIFICATION_RINGTONE. e24fc04721
