If you want immersive, high-fidelity audio with active noise cancellation for movies on your Android device, choose SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3; if you need all-day comfort, situational awareness, and a unique mechanical design for open-ear listening, choose Moondrop Pill Open Ear.
• SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3: Delivers superior sound fidelity with 24-bit/96kHz audio and robust Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), but requires an Android ecosystem for full feature access and lacks the openness of clip-on styles.
• Moondrop Pill Open Ear: Offers exceptional comfort with its unique retractable design and bone-conduction-inspired openness, featuring advanced AI noise cancellation for calls, yet sacrifices deep bass isolation due to its open-ear architecture.
• Best for: The Samsung pick is ideal for audiophiles and movie watchers who prioritize immersion, while the Moondrop pick suits users who need to stay aware of their surroundings during long sessions.
The SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3 are engineered for those who demand a true wireless experience that prioritizes audio purity and environmental control. These earbuds sit firmly in the ear canal, creating a seal that allows them to utilize Adaptive Noise Cancellation effectively. This makes them a compelling choice for anyone looking for in ear headphones for movies, as the ANC blocks out ambient chatter and traffic noise, allowing the listener to focus entirely on the dialogue and sound effects. The inclusion of SSC HiFi and UHQ audio codecs means they support 24bit/96KHz sampling rates, delivering a level of detail that standard Bluetooth earbuds simply cannot match.
For the movie enthusiast, the combination of dynamic drivers and a tight fit creates a personal theater environment. Whether you are watching a blockbuster action film or a dialogue-heavy drama, the Super Wideband microphones ensure that any voice acting is crisp and clear. The IP57 water and dust resistance rating adds a layer of durability that makes these buds suitable for outdoor viewing or workouts where sweat might be a concern. The vertical charging case with a transparent lid offers a modern aesthetic, and the ability to charge wirelessly ensures you can keep power flowing without fumbling for cables.

However, this product is not for everyone. The Galaxy Buds3 are optimized specifically for the Android ecosystem, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, to unlock features like real-time language translation and advanced AI call processing. If you rely heavily on iOS, you will miss out on these intelligent capabilities. Furthermore, the in-ear design, while secure, may not be comfortable for users who prefer to leave their ear canals open or wear glasses that conflict with the stem design. If you need to hear every car horn and conversation around you while listening to music, these sealed buds will isolate you too much.
The Moondrop Pill Open Ear represents a shift away from traditional isolation toward a design that keeps your ears open to the world. Its most striking feature is the futuristic, mechanical aesthetic of the "Pill" series, where the ear clips retract smoothly into a transparent capsule case. This design is not just about looks; it addresses the fatigue associated with traditional earbuds. By resting on the concha rather than inside the canal, the Pill eliminates pressure buildup, making it an excellent option for long viewing sessions where comfort is paramount.
These headphones utilize a 13mm circular low-distortion dynamic driver, which is larger than the typical drivers found in many open-ear clip-ons. This size difference translates to significantly better bass response and dynamic performance, addressing one of the common criticisms of open-ear technology. The dipole directional sound transmission technology is a standout feature, designed to minimize sound leakage so that people nearby do not hear what you are watching. This makes the Pill a viable alternative to bone conduction headphones for movies when you want to maintain a sense of place while still enjoying a rich audio experience.
The built-in Neuron Processor Unit (NPU) and AI Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) further enhance the user experience, particularly for calls and mixed-use scenarios. Unlike traditional ANC that blocks sound physically, this system uses algorithms to filter background noise while keeping the natural acoustic profile intact. With dual-device connectivity, you can seamlessly switch between a laptop and a phone, which is perfect for someone who works and watches content across multiple screens. However, because they are open-ear, they cannot provide the same level of silence as the Samsung buds. If you are trying to watch a movie in a noisy cafe or on a plane, the ambient noise will inevitably bleed in, regardless of the digital cancellation.
• Best for deep immersion and blocking noise → SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3: The physical seal and Active Noise Cancellation create a private bubble, essential for best active noise cancelling neckband headphones for movies style experiences where silence is key.

• Gaming and low-latency needs → Moondrop Pill Open Ear: The dedicated game mode drops latency to 55ms, providing a smoother synchronization between visual action and audio compared to standard modes.
• Call quality in windy conditions → SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3: The placement of microphones closer to the lips and the use of SWB technology generally provides clearer voice capture in challenging acoustics.
• Design aesthetics and uniqueness → Moondrop Pill Open Ear: The retractable, mechanical design offers a conversation-starting look that differs from the standard plastic stems of most competitors.
• Ecosystem integration → SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3: If you own a Samsung phone, the seamless pairing and AI features provide a more integrated software experience than the generic Bluetooth connection of the Moondrop.
In my opinion, I would buy the SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3 for the primary purpose of watching movies. While the Moondrop Pill is a fascinating piece of engineering with its retractable design and impressive open-ear tuning, nothing beats the immersive capability of a well-sealed in-ear bud with Active Noise Cancellation when you want to lose yourself in a film. The Samsung's support for high-resolution audio codecs ensures that every note and whisper in the soundtrack is delivered with precision, and the ANC creates the necessary silence to appreciate that detail. Unless you have specific medical reasons to avoid in-ear products or absolutely must hear your environment, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 offer the superior cinematic experience.
Both the SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3 and Moondrop Pill connect via Bluetooth to iPhones, but you will lose specific features like the Galaxy AI language interpreter on the Samsung side, while the Moondrop retains its core audio functions and app connectivity.
The Moondrop Pill utilizes dipole directional sound transmission technology to counter sound radiation, claiming to eliminate up to 97% of sound leakage at a distance of 15 cm, making it quite discreet for casual listening.
The Moondrop Pill offers a slight edge with 8 hours of continuous playback and a total of 28 hours with the case, whereas the SAMSUNG Galaxy Buds3 provide around 7 hours per charge with a total of 12 to 20 hours depending on ANC usage.
Yes, both models are rated for water resistance; the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 hold an IP57 rating against dust and water immersion, while the Moondrop Pill is certified IPX4 for splash resistance, making them suitable for various physical activities.
