If you want a sealed, immersive audio experience with proven brand reliability for professional mixing and monitoring, choose Samsung Galaxy Buds SM-R170; if you need open-ear safety, massive battery life, and real-time translation for mobile work or long sessions away from a desk, choose GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds.
• Samsung Galaxy Buds SM-R170: Delivers premium, tuned sound by AKG with substantial bass and active ambient awareness, but trades off total isolation and has a shorter 13-hour total playtime window.
• GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds: Offers an ultra-lightweight, open design that keeps you aware of your surroundings with 96 hours of total playtime and instant AI translation, though it lacks the deep bass punch of in-ear seals.
• The Verdict on Fit: The Samsung is for the purist who demands studio-quality clarity and comfort inside the ear canal, while the GNZUQ is the ultimate tool for the traveler, runner, or DJ who needs situational awareness and all-day power without blocking out the world.
This headset is engineered for the person who treats audio fidelity as a non-negotiable part of their workflow. Whether you are a DJ needing to cue tracks with precision or a producer checking mixes, the Samsung Galaxy Buds SM-R170 offers a distinct advantage through its acoustic tuning. These buds are tuned by AKG, a legacy audio partner known for high-fidelity standards. The optimized driver system provides substantial bass response, while the volume driver ensures a wider range of sound frequencies. This combination creates a sonic profile that feels rich and detailed, essential when you are trying to hear every layer of a track or monitor a live set where missing a low-end frequency could ruin a mix.
The physical design prioritizes a secure, in-ear fit that blocks out external distractions. They come with three adjustable ear tip and wingtip sizes right from the box, allowing you to find a seal that fits your unique anatomy. This in-ear placement is critical for sound isolation; it physically dampens the environment so you can focus entirely on the audio feed. If you work in a noisy studio or a busy club, this isolation is what allows you to maintain concentration. The inclusion of Ambient Aware technology adds a layer of control, letting you dial back the isolation to hear traffic announcements or coworkers calling out to you without removing the buds, but the default state is one of deep immersion.

However, this product is not for everyone. If your primary use case involves running outdoors in heavy traffic or working in environments where hearing sirens or machinery is a safety requirement, these might be too isolating. The battery life is solid at six hours per charge with an additional seven hours from the wireless charging case, totaling 13 hours. While sufficient for a standard workday, it pales in comparison to the marathon endurance of newer competitors. You also need to ensure your smartphone meets the minimum requirements of Android 5.0 with 1.5GB RAM for full feature access, particularly for automatic sync and advanced ambient modes. If you are an iOS user, you will lose some of the seamless integration features, relying instead on basic voice commands.
The GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds are built for a completely different philosophy: freedom and connectivity without compromise. Designed with an innovative open-ear structure, these headphones utilize lightweight SMA memory material that weighs only 4.3 grams per single earpiece. This feather-light build eliminates the "foreign body sensation" often found in traditional in-ear monitors. The slim ear hook is specifically designed to fit comfortably over glasses wearers, a detail that matters immensely if you spend hours wearing prescription frames while working. The ergonomic design keeps your ear canal open, meaning you remain fully aware of your surroundings. For a DJ performing in a park, a runner navigating city streets, or a traveler in a foreign airport, this situational awareness is not just a feature; it is a safety necessity.
Where these earbuds truly shine is in their endurance and smart capabilities. They boast a staggering 96 hours of total playtime, achieved through a 10-hour single-ear continuous playback combined with a magnetic charging case that supports up to 96 hours. A quick five-minute charge even grants an hour of use, eliminating the anxiety of running out of power during a long gig or a cross-country flight. Beyond the battery, they integrate a powerful AI translation engine supporting 198 languages with 0.2-second response times. This makes them a versatile tool for business meetings, travel, or international collaborations where language barriers exist. The Bluetooth 6.1 chip ensures a stable connection within a 33-foot range, which is crucial for moving around a stage or a large venue without dropouts.
The trade-off here is the lack of passive noise isolation. Because the drivers do not seal the ear canal, the bass response, while described as deep due to the 14.2mm Hi-Fi dynamic driver, will not hit with the same visceral force as a sealed in-ear model. In very loud environments, you may find yourself turning up the volume higher than usual to compete with ambient noise. Additionally, the IP68 waterproof rating makes them incredibly resilient against sweat and rain, superior to the IPX2 splash resistance of many traditional buds, making them ideal for intense workouts or outdoor events in unpredictable weather. They are for the modern nomad who values versatility, safety, and longevity over absolute acoustic isolation.

After weighing the specifications and real-world applications, I would buy the GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds. While the Samsung Galaxy Buds SM-R170 are excellent for focused listening, the GNZUQ offers a level of utility that aligns perfectly with the chaotic, mobile nature of modern life. For a DJ or anyone using a headset for dj duties outside of a controlled booth, the ability to hear your own cues while remaining aware of the crowd, the weather, and potential hazards is invaluable. The 96-hour battery life alone makes it the superior choice for long-haul travel or multi-day events where charging isn't guaranteed. Furthermore, the AI translation feature opens doors that traditional audio gear simply cannot touch. I recommend the GNZUQ because it adapts to you, whereas the Samsung requires you to adapt to its sealed environment.
Yes, the GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds are ideal for this use case because their open-ear design allows you to hear both the music and the surrounding environment simultaneously, unlike the sealed Samsung buds which isolate you from the room.
The GNZUQ supports real-time translation across 198 languages via its Bluetooth 6.1 connection, but you should check the current compatibility details on Amazon to ensure your device supports the necessary app functions for the translation modes.
The GNZUQ Open Ear Earbuds provide 10 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, significantly outlasting the Samsung Galaxy Buds SM-R170, which offer 6 hours before needing a top-up from the case.
Both models feature noise-canceling microphones, but the GNZUQ includes four ENC noise-canceling microphones specifically designed to capture voice clearly while reducing background noise, making it highly effective for calls in various environments.
