Hi! My name is Sam and as you can tell I love to read! I've been an avid reader since I was a young girl, I mean my favorite elementary school memory is whenever the Scholastic Book Fair would come take over the school library. I would sit at my desk in class and whenever I had a moment to spare would circle all the books I wanted my mom to buy me with my cute little glitter pens.
Here I am, 20 something years later with that same love and excitement for books. Except now instead of the Scholastic Book Fair magazine it is a never ending list on Good Reads, saved Instagram stories and Tik Toks, book club newsletters, and random notes on my phone.
In school reading wasn't a popular thing to do, I secretly read Twilight, Harry Potter, Gossip Girl, and the Clique series by myself at home. In college, I got bogged down by all the mandatory readings that I never even wanted to look at a book just for fun. When I graduated college I started reading on my Kindle but by the time I would get home from work or whenever I was too tired to even read a page. When I got hired as a first year teacher, I truly had given up on reading because it was the last thing that I wanted to do when I finally got home after a hectic day of dealing with 11 year old's.
Then like most people, 2020 came and things changed. My life was suddenly at a stand still. I went from being at school, teaching, and lesson planning from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm to only teaching over Zoom for an hour a day. I started to develop new habits to keep myself from going stir crazy. I began cooking more, journaling more, trying Pilates and workout programs, walking my dog for miles a day, and then finally I picked up a habit that I had long since neglected. I started reading again.
Specifically, I started really reading again. I started to enjoy reading again. I started to crave the feelings of the book in my hands. I started to crave reading as a way to destress and practice that ever famous self care that people always scream about. That was 2020; its been almost 2 years and I haven't looked back.
Through books like "A Court of Thornes and Roses" , "The Deal", "The Selection", "Good Girls Guide to Murder", and so many others I rediscovered the love I had for holding a book my hands, physically turning the pages, and fully immersing myself into a fictional world. Since 2020 I have read over 200 books with no plans on stopping soon.
I hope to use this blog as a way to share my love of reading, shoutout some really cool books that I've read, get some book suggestions, and just overall have fun. We need more of that in this world, kindness and fun. So with that being said, happy reading!
Sam
