Hello COUN 51 Scholars! Welcome to our class. I am Professor Ky ("Key") and I will be your online instructor for COUN 51. I am very excited to embark upon an exciting Summer with you all! As an educator committed to student success, I am here to assist each of you in your learning endeavors.

a letter to my students (aka scholars!)
As a first-generation college student coming from an underserved community myself, I understand first-hand what it is like to encounter various challenges while navigating college. For this reason, I do not question your potential, as all students already have great potential!
However, I ask for your commitment in the spirit of moving towards educational success. I will frequently challenge you to think about the level of commitment willing to be brought forward for this class. I am a firm believer that what you put into this class is what you get out of this class. I ask for mutual respect for each other and approaching this course with an open mind. This course is designed for 1) collaboration, creativity, and community, 2) self-exploration and challenging ourselves, and 3) connecting our personal narratives to classroom content.
As we discussed commitment, I have very high expectations of you because I believe that everyone here has the ability to produce the highest quality of work. To start off, everyone will begin with an "A" grade in this course; though it is up to you to maintain your "A" by participating in class and completing assignments. You will find that assignments are very reasonable and personally helpful to your overall educational success.
Again, I believe in each and every one of you. I am committed to each of your success in this course. Please do not hesitate if you have questions or simply would like to chat.
