Sami Bensassi

I am Reader of Trade and Development Economics at the University of Birmingham.

My research focuses on informal trade, smuggling and living conditions in countries marked by civil turmoil and wars.

I value strongly interdisciplinarity and research impact. My publications have appeared in World Development, the Journal of Development Studies, the Review of International Economics, the Journal of African Economies and Journal of Transportation research among others. I have been given the outstanding international research impact award by the University of Birmingham for my research on smuggling at the border of Tunisia and Libya. I have collaborated the World Bank, the IFPRI, the FAO and the FCDO.
