After completing a PhD in Economics (University of Paris Nanterre, France), I joined the University Jaume I (Spain) in 2009. During the period I passed in Spain, I led a research project on the impact of maritime trade on the Mediterranean countries for the Center for Research on the Mediterranean Economies (CREMED). In 2012, I started lecturing at the University of Portsmouth.
I joined the Birmingham Business School in January 2013. From 2013 to 2019, I worked extensively on smuggling in North Africa and West Africa across 2 projects in cooperation with the World Bank and the AGRODEP network. Since 2022, I am working with the FCDO on issue related to smuggling and money laundering in Africa and along the Maritime Silk Road.
