Greetings Ladies and Lords,
The snow has fallen, and the harvest is almost complete. Samhain is just around the corner. The physical event is cancelled, so it will be held online.
The A&S tournament theme will be the classic “What you did during quarantine”: any A&S type projects you worked on over the last eight or nine months. If you didn’t work on anything A&S but would still like to participate, tell me about something you worked on and how it would’ve been done in medieval times.
Since there’s no physical location to display your projects, submissions will be online. Take lots of pictures and have a write up describing your project, how it went, what you learned, and what you would do differently next time. The deadline will be the Sunday of the original weekend of Samhain, November 8, 2020. Please send entries to champion-as [at] montengarde [dot] org. All entries will receive a token and the winner will receive a prize.
Any questions, please email me.

Update Dec 7:
Rapier Fighters! (And all others interested in participating!)
Your Basket of Mystery Building Materials includes:
Silver Duct Tape (not aluminium tape for ducts)
A piece of Foam
A piece of Cloth (in honour of Her Excellency)
Something Blue (in honour of His Excellency)
All four items must be separate items (eg: you can use blue foam, but you must then use another item that is either blue, or foam). All materials need not be visible, but you must describe how they were included in your parrying device in your description.
Your time starts...
Now!
Greetings Rapier Fighters,
Samhain is fast approaching, and while we can't cross blades in person, we can still compete online.
There was to be a Baroness's Brawl at Samhain this year, so instead how about we prepare for the next time we meet by creating BAR BRAWL INSPIRED OFF-HAND PARRYING DEVICES.
RULES:
1) On the day of I will post a Chopped-style list of mandatory mystery materials that you must incorporate into your Parrying Device in some way. This will be posted to the Samhain Facebook event page.
2) All entries must be built new for the competition.
3) All Parrying Devices must meet standards set out in the Avacal Book of Rapier section 2.4 (page 13), found in the link below.
4) The Parrying Device must be something that you you would have brought with you to a tavern/pub, or that you would likely find if a brawl erupted.
5) All submissions must be received by 4pm MST (UTC-6) on Sunday, November 8th (allowing plenty of time for building and acquiring materials). Winner(s) will be announced that evening.
SCORING:
Points will be awarded for creativity, incorporation of the mystery materials, functionality, and fun.
SUBMISSION:
Submit photos/video of your Parrying Device to the Samhain Facebook event page and tag myself (Steve Haywood), Baron Blue, and Baroness Bóthilðr. Please include a brief description of the item and where you incorporated the mandatory mystery materials.
Good crafting!
