Advocacy Accomplishments
Even before running for SMOB, I have accomplished so much! These achievements show how dedicated and passionate I will be as YOUR next SMOB.
I advocated for the FY2024 budget which would cover the cost of all AP and IB exams, a barrier for many looking to take advanced courses, free tutoring, and mental health support. The MCPS budget was eventually INCREASED and passed by the County Council.
After ESSER funding (pandemic relief funding from the federal level) stopped, I urged the Board of Education to continue funding social workers and Restorative Justice (RJ) staff, previously funded through ESSER. As a result, social workers and RJ remained in the budget.
I testified in support of a boundary analysis for the new Woodward High School, which would open the doors to end inequitable boundaries that separate students by race and socioeconomic status.
I advocated for a comprehensive plan to support ELL students, including newcomers, students who speak diverse languages, and students who lack family support. As a result, ELL perspectives were recognized in planning.
