About me

I was born and brought up in Kolkata, the intellectual and cultural heart of India, a city of cheerful chaos, amazing food, compulsory afternoon siesta, and fierce debates with Tagore's songs playing somewhere in the background! I graduated from Jadavpur University, Kolkata with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 2011. The same year I got selected for the Integrated PhD program (M.S and PhD combined) in mathematics at India's premier institute of research, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. I finished my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Abhishek Banerjee in 2019 and joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune as an institute postdoctoral fellow. In 2021, I started working as a national postdoctoral fellow (NPDF) at the same institute. After that, I worked as an IBS postdoctoral research associate at the IBS Center for Geometry and Physics, POSTECH, Pohang, South Korea for a year. Following that I was on a 3 months visiting research scholar position at the Department of Mathematics, Indiana University, Bloomington., Indiana before joining Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore as an Inspire faculty where I presently work.

Apart from mathematics, I am deeply passionate about art and dance. I was born to very talented parents, a dancer mother who studied Physics and an advocate father who is an astounding sculptor and painter.  My mother started training me in Kathak, a beautiful Indian classical dance form, from childhood. Painting came to me naturally and my father helped me in finding my mistakes. Later, I had the privilege to join the art school of the late Santosh Rohatgi for a few years during my teenage. Away from home, while pursuing PhD at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, I also had the great opportunity to learn Kathak from Guru. Jayanthi M Eshwarpurthi for about 6 years. Here is a link to some of my favourite paintings and a few photos of my dance performances! I am also an ardent reader and here is a link to my profile on Goodreads.
