Originally written for History 497: The Third Reich, my paper, "Nazi Cult of Motherhood, Propaganda, and Racial Purity" analyzes the role of women as mothers in Nazi Germany (1933-1945).
I argue that the Nazi Cult of Motherhood and the propaganda surrounding it was the most important role for German women at that time. I also argue that the Cult of Motherhood was a means of carrying out Nazi plans of Anti-semitism and eugenics.
This paper was awarded Ball State's Sharon Seager Prize 2022, for the best student paper on women, gender, and/or sexuality.
Originally written for History 482: Celtic Peoples Cultural History, my paper "Tartan and Culture" analyzes how the perception of tartan fabric as a symbol of Scotland has changed over time.
I argue that the failed Jacobite Uprising of 1745 was instrumental in the history of tartan, symbolizing a drastic change in the fabric's perception. I analyze how tartan was appropriated and reintroduced in Scotland following the '45.
Originally written for History 487: Soviet and Post-Soviet History, my paper, "The Great Patriotic War: Soviet Women in Combat and Their Legacy," analyzes woman's participation in World War II on the side of the Soviet Union.
I argue that Soviet women played a crucial role as combat participants, whereas their German, American, and British counterparts were rarely, if ever, involved in front line combat. This paper analyzes the lives of many Soviet woman combatants and their legacy in Soviet and Post-Soviet culture.
Originally written for Anthropology 315: Evolution and Human Behavior, this paper analyzes suicide and suicidal behavior from an evolutionary anthropological perspective. I argue that the Bargaining Model serves as the best explanation for how people use suicidal behavior. However, genetic studies have the potential to further analyze genetic predispositions to suicidal behavior.
