The Mediterranean Regional STEAM Astronomy Summer School will take place in the premises of the beautiful campus of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco.

Ifrane is located in the midst of the Middle Atlas Mountains, it is about 70 km (43 mi) from the imperial cities of Fez and Meknes. Due to its alpine feel, tiled chalets, and snowbound winters, this city, which is located at an elevation of 1665 meters (5,460 ft), has inherited the nickname “Morocco’s Switzerland”. Ifrane’s lakes and rivers are among its assets. The town has several excellent spots to explore, including the slopes of Mount Hebri, also known as “Djebel Hebri,” and Michlifen Ski Resort, both of which are located 19 km south of the city and all of which provide breathtaking slopes for sledding.

Nearest airports

The closest airport to Ifrane is Fes-Saiss Airport, which is situated 57.3 km away. It takes roughly an hour to get from the airport to Ifrane City, and a cab will run you $30 to $35. Other recommendations include flying into Rabat (Morocco’s capital) or Casablanca (economic capital), which are respectively 160 kilometres and 230 km away from Ifrane city. From Rabat or Casablanca, you may take the train to Meknes then a taxi to Ifrane.

The easiest way to get to Ifrane from Fez or Meknes is by grand taxi. Both cities are one hour drive by grand taxis. The grand taxi station in Ifrane is just 3 km away from Al Akhawayn University.

Coming from Rabat Airport (Rabat-Salé Airport)

Passengers coming from Rabat Airport to Ifrane can choose from the following options:

Option 1:

Take a taxi directly from the airport to Ifrane. If there are more than two passengers, the price can be shared between the parties.

Option 2:

Take the bus or taxi from Rabat Airport to Salé or Rabat train stations, then, take the train to Meknes Al Amir. Taxis are available at the main entrance of the Al Amir train station to head to Ifrane.
