Hinwick House: English Country Mansion Model

A splendid English estate developed hundred years ago and modeled on Buckingham Palace is now the most popular venue for all events.

When wealthy newlyweds Diana and Richard Orlebar constructed Hinwick House hundreds of years ago, they modeled it on Bucking House- today renowned as Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the Queen of London.

For three centuries, the grand country house was passed down in their family and sooner or later sold. By the time it was purchased by Singh family in 2014, it had required complete renovation to bring back its original splendors.

They paid $5.48 million for the house and embarked on a yearlong, almost $4M restoration- a significant investment for a family which stumbled upon the home by accident.

Singh, who manages the Noble House Group of companies with interests in technology and real estate, and his loved ones were living in the rich commuter city of Gerrards Cross, which is twenty miles from London. The two viewed house as they were searching for a hotel to invest in.

In buying the property, singh family became the 4th owner; Richard Orlebar spent almost $365K to build this house, financed by his partner’s marriage dowry. Richard commissioned a frieze carved into its frontage of Diana, goddess of hunting, in honor of the owner who loves hunting. Diane died in 1716, while his husband died in 1733.

As the two had no kids, the house passed to his cousin John Orlebar. His successor owned the house until the 1990s when Sam Singh knows it was sold first to a family from Malaysia and then to a business in the area, which resided for almost one decade.

When singh took over, this house was structurally sound as well as retaining its remarkable exterior. On the other hand, the inside of it was empty of character, and its original features had been lost. In an effort to precisely re-establish it, they talked to Orlebar's successors and former caretakers who had worked at the house. Hinwick House today is one of the most popular places for all types of events.
