Project management is the art of balancing structure and adaptability to achieve the best outcomes. My approach is rooted in Agile principles, emphasizing collaboration, iteration, and continuous improvement. Through my experiences in technical communication, leadership roles, and operational management, I have developed a philosophy that prioritizes flexibility, team empowerment, and clear communication.
At the core of my project management style is the belief that successful projects are built on strong teams. As House Manager for Kappa Alpha Order, I coordinated maintenance, budgeting, and logistics, ensuring the efficient operation of a shared living space for my peers. This role reinforced my ability to manage competing priorities, solve problems quickly, and foster a cooperative team environment. Similarly, as Vice President of Southwind’s Literary Arts Magazine, I facilitated discussions, delegated tasks, and kept the publication process on track. These experiences taught me the importance of adaptive leadership—aligning team strengths with project needs while maintaining clear goals.
Agile methods align with my philosophy by promoting iterative progress over rigid planning. My internship as a Documentation Developer at WireCo World Group involved engaging with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation. This process required continuous feedback loops, reflecting Agile’s focus on responding to change rather than following a static plan. By breaking complex documentation into manageable phases and adjusting based on SME input, I ensured that deliverables met real-world needs efficiently.
Another key tenet of my philosophy is the value of clear, structured communication. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Technical Writing, I have led instructional sessions, collaborated on curriculum development, and evaluated student work. Effective communication keeps projects aligned and prevents misunderstandings, much like well-crafted documentation ensures consistency across an organization. In both academia and industry, I have found that setting clear expectations, defining objectives, and providing timely feedback lead to stronger outcomes.
Finally, I believe that continuous learning and adaptability are essential to effective project management. Agile encourages reflection through retrospectives, allowing teams to refine processes and improve outcomes. My background in technical communication has reinforced the idea that no project is ever truly “finished” but is instead an evolving process. Whether refining manufacturing flowcharts, revising regulatory documents, or overseeing a fraternity house, I have applied this mindset to ensure that each project improves upon the last.
In all my work, I strive to create an environment where teams feel empowered to collaborate, experiment, and adapt. By combining Agile methods with a strong foundation in communication, I aim to lead projects that are not only successful in their deliverables but also in fostering innovation and teamwork.
This example is a part of my project management curriculum, developed independently in March of 2025. Assuming the role of project manager as part of a design team on campus working with the Rolla Mission, I developed a Agile project management for a fundraising event. This plan encompasses:
Project Scope
Work Breakdown Structure
Project Schedule
Resource Planning
Risk Management Plan
Communication Plan
Quality and Success Criteria
Management Change Criteria
This plan was later integrated into JIRA.
This video presentation is a collaborative effort between myself and fellow project management students, identifying and exploring the technologies: Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Trello, and JIRA. This is a reflection of my collaborative experience and my own exploration of JIRA.
