For students currently enrolled in a NYCDOE Public School, Grades 4-8

About Our Program

The Salute to Music Program provides an opportunity for NYC public school students to receive FREE Saturday musical instruction along with peers within their boroughs.  Each ensemble site will prepare and present a culminating concert in the spring.

Students can participate in borough based Concert Bands; Staten Island, Queens, and Bronx based Orchestras; Citywide Chorus; Citywide Jazz ensemble; Citywide Modern Band.  The Citywide Jazz Ensemble meets at IS 318 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Citywide Chorus meets at JHS 157 in Forest Hills, Queens and the Citywide Modern Band meets in Lower Manhattan.

Students who demonstrate proficient skill will be accepted into the appropriate Borough-Wide instrumental ensemble.  Participation in a Junior Ensemble may be available for students who have completed at least one year of instrumental study and show promise of acquiring the skills necessary for advancement.

The Salute to Music program is open to 4th through 8th grade students who reside within the five boroughs and are currently enrolled in a New York City public school. All ensembles meet on Saturday mornings, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Each site is staffed by licensed NYC Public Schools music educators.
