Saltash Town

Waterside and River Links Connectivity Project

The project website for Making Saltash Better Connected is available at https://sites.google.com/view/make-saltash-waterside-better . Public Consultation is open from 22 March - 7 April.

Project Overview

This project aims to make Saltash a well-connected community which contributes towards economic prosperity, improved social mobility and ‘green’ excellence.

This can be achieved through the creation of a vision, strategy and costed action plan for connecting the town, waterside and surrounding areas and will put Saltash at the heart of ‘green tourism’ as well as raising the profile of southeast Cornwall as a visitor destination.

Background

The Coastal Communities Team Economic Plan identified the following needs:

The Saltash Town Waterside and River Links Connectivity Project is designed to address these issues.

What's happening now?

Following assessment of the tenders and a shortlisting process, Architecture by Studio Hive and their consultant team, including internationally renowned marine consulting engineers, Beckett Rankine, were selected to take this feasibility project forward.

This design team is exploring and assessing options to improve connections within Saltash in order to provide recommendations to the Council to consider. There are clear links between this project and other regeneration activity currently underway in Saltash including the Saltash Community Space Project and Saltash Waterside, Public Realm and Flood Protection Improvements, and these will be taken into account.

Stakeholder engagement

Stakeholders from local businesses, community groups, schools and Saltash Town council and Cornwall Council were invited to attend a stakeholder workshop in November 2023 and feedback collected will help the project team further develop options.  The engagement materials presented at these workshops can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.

Public consultation

From 22nd March to 7th April 2024, Saltash Town Council is consulting the public on the ideas developed so far.

A drop-in style public consultation exhibition  will take place on Easter Saturday 30th March from 10am – 4pm at Ashtorre Rock, on the Saltash Waterside. The consultation event will coincide with a ‘public transport trial’ which will showcase some of the different methods of transport on land and water that are being explored as part of the final solution.

More information will follow soon....

What happens next

We will be consulting the wider public on our proposals early in 2024 which will include events for the public to attend and more detailed information available online.

Following this, the project team will continue with their designs and recommendations which will be presented at the end of April 2024. A live trial of potential transport options is also planned towards the end of March 2024.
