With a Bodega cat in Greve-in-Chianti, Italy - the cat is in the window behind me

 Who am I?

I received my Bachelor’s degree in French horn and Music Education from the  Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and my M.A. in music from Truman State University in Missouri. I played French horn professionally and taught music at every level from grade one through university for thirty years. When my husband retired, he persuaded me to join him for watercolor lessons and it has become a much-loved hobby we truly enjoy.

I love to travel, especially to France and Italy, to paint and to photograph subjects for more paintings. I have visited France, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, including the Palatinate and Bavaria; Austria, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium. In this part of the world I have visited Mexico, Haiti, Canada and 49 of the 50 United States of America. I am active on TravellersPoint as Beausoleil and wrote the Accommodations Guide for Paris on that web site. Most of my paintings are of France because that is the place I visit most often and dearly love it.

My husband and I enjoy painting in like-minded groups and highly recommend the “Hang Out and Do Art” group that meets at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. I started a watercolor group nearer our home a few years ago. We meet one morning a week at a local church and paint together. We have members from several local organizations and from no organizations. We all just enjoy painting. It has evolved to include acrylic, pen and ink, scratch board, gouache and oils in addition to our core watercolor group. We occasionally have painting demonstrations. Anyone is welcome to request a demonstration or offer to give one. We also enjoy visiting each other’s local exhibitions.

I am and plan to remain an amateur painter, a hobbyist, but have won several  awards in local shows and had my paintings chosen for display in local offices and lobbies.  I’ve donated several paintings to charity auctions and they have always helped the charity. I’ve also given paintings to friends who enjoyed them and have done a couple commissions.

My work is generally realistic but on my crazy days, I love to do very colorful abstracts, the brighter, the better.

You can find me on www.travellerspoint.com as Beausoleil. I have several blogs of trips we've taken and am reasonably active on the Forums. I wrote the Paris "Accommodations Guide" for the web site so if you are looking for a place to stay in Paris, check it out.
