Okay so, first, we are going to talk about Jim Johnson, who is Larry’s dad. His real name is Zarinthkampt 42-79. We don’t know when he was born. He died approximately around the 1984. He was the resident of an unknown world, but we know that it’s kind of similar to the Earth, it’s like an alternative future. Here, he had an unnamed nephews, stillborn daughter, father-in-law and mother-in-low but more important : a sister named Evelyn. We know that they all lived a happy life amongst a society of technologically advanced individuals… but that was before the Plague of Shadows. It’s described in Jim’s diary that it was a dark force that consumed all in its path with living shadows as a collective entity. The demon possesses no qualms about killing innocents to get its way, having consumed Jim's entire home world to further its goals…Because yeah, the Demon quickly seized dominion of the planet and consumed Jim's nephews, leaving him and his devastated sister Evelyn to flee from their doomed home via a Drifter. But unfortunately, Evelyn had already been infected before their escape. After months drifting aimlessly through space, Jim found Earth and opted to land their ship despite his fears and uncertainties. Misfortune once again befell Jim when his sister vanished without a trace, sending his emotionally crippled being to seek refuge in Addison Appartements where he was greeted by Alison Rosenberg and Lisa Garcia. Throughout his stay, he was plagued with mass hallucinations of Evelyn. Jim became infatuated with Lisa after all she had done to help him adjust to the apartments and eventually asked for her hand a year after his arrival.
Okay, it’s where it’s going to be more complicated. I’ll try to do my best to explain you.
Let’s first talk about Evelyn. Jim Johnson and his sister Evelyn accidentally bring to earth when escaping their planet's demise. The demon attaches itself to Evelyn. Throughout their voyage, Evelyn never spoke. Upon discovering Earth and beginning their landing, Evelyn became engulfed in flame before disappearing from sight entirely, making her brother fear the worst… but she’s still alive. Through unknown means, Evelyn became trapped in the Spectral Plane (so, she is now stuck in the ghost world…) : despite not being a ghost, having only the security cameras to document her thoughts and experiences. In time, she even saw her brother in the Addison Appartements complex and made efforts to communicate with him that ultimately ended in failure. Slowly, the “Plague of Shadows” ate away at her sanity and physical being until she was reduced to a raving lunatic. Her final moments were spent in writhing agony as she was torn apart by the malevolent entity.
(So, for the moment, the main antagonist is the Plague of Shadows. If you played the game, you must have heard about the Red-Eyed Demon (or Man)… well… they are the same person ! Jim called this Demon “Plague of Shadows”, but Sal Fisher called it “the Red-Eyed Man”. It’s just that. So yeah, the main antagonist from the beginning to the end is it.)
Now, let’s talk about the Addison Appartements. It’s an appartement complex, located in Nockfell, in the United States. It’s a small rural American town.
(I said that we are going to talk about the appartements, but let’s talk about Nockfell first, for you to understand).
The town of Nockfell was established in approximately 1623 when a Native American tribe known as the Greys settled around Wendigo Lake. According to legend, the tribe witnessed an unusual light while walking through the forest and sent their strongest hunter to investigate. When the hunter returned, he told the tribe of the lake, and soon the entire tribe had migrated there. When people began disappearing, it was revealed the hunter had “become a beast” and was eating people. In order to continue living on the land, the tribe made a deal with the beast which required them to make sacrifices to it.
In 1663, Citlali Grey (the tribe’s seer) spoke a prophecy, bringing together a faction of the tribe and forming the cult known as the Devourers of God (we are going to talk about them again later). Over the centuries, the cult would secretly practice their occult beliefs and rituals, gaining a supposedly large following both within the community and potentially nationwide. Their actions are the source for numerous strange phenomena that have occurred in the town for decades, giving Nockfell a notorious reputation. However, the community at large managed to maintain the appearance of a quiet and peaceful town.
Let’s talk about the Addison Appartements, for real this time.
Many years ago, a young Alyson Rosenberg sold her family's land to the Addison family, who began to construct the apartments and expansions to the Phelps Ministry temple and cult. Between 1917 and 1932, Terrence's family was murdered, presumably by his own hand or the Endless One's (Terrence, but consumed). From that point forward, he stayed in his room more and more, until eventually being completely locked away as he became less and less visually human and fulfilled his destiny… as The Endless One.
I now really have to talk about the Cult, also known as the Devourers of God.
The cult’s origins lie in the beliefs of the Grey Tribe, as I said before. In 1663, a prophecy spoken by the seer Citlali Grey (she was a Native American seer from the Grey Tribe. She was one of the founders and original council members of the Devourers of God) brought a faction of the Grey Tribe together, forming the Devourers of God.
Citlali’s final prophecy warned the Devourers of the Child of the Abomination, the one who would stand against them, and his resurrection by Asintmah.
When colonists later arrived in Nockfell, a ceremonial marriage between Citlali, by then one of the cult’s Council members, and Wesley Rosenberg united the groups. By 1681, the cult’s underground temple was completed. The Phelps Ministry was later built in 1703 to conceal the temple’s entrance. Soon after, a ceremonial marriage between the Grey and Phelps families took place.
On an unknown date, a young Alyson Rosenberg sought a place amongst the Council and as part of an initiation trial, traversed the labyrinthine temple to retrieve the Book of Forgotten Truths. When Rosenberg presented the book to the Council, they granted her request to join their ranks. It’s an action that she would later regret.
Sometime between 1917-1932, Terrence’s soul was destroyed by The Endless One and his parents were murdered. When his appearance started to change, he was locked in his room by the Council to conceal their secret, while also drawing power from the entity. Throughout the years, Terrence was able to successfully mask the transformation his body and soul had undergone and appeared as nothing but an anxious landlord.
At some point in the 60's-70's, Luke married Stacy Holmes, before together having a daughter named Megan in 1980. It is unknown how or when, but Luke at some point became involved with the Devourers of God. It was through them that he was instilled with a singular purpose: to bring Red Eyes into the physical plane. His mission became an obsession, driving Luke into far more erratic behavior, spurning great concern from his wife.
Prior to his death, Gregory Montague was a peaceful farmer. His family had died in the 1986 factory fire at Nockfell Mills. His average life took a turn when he visited a church belonging to a local cult, for reasons even he couldn't explain. After being turned away from the meeting room by Jim Johnson, Greg opted to explore the labyrinthine passages of the Phelps Ministry. He heard sounds of crying, and upon following them, found the distraught Stacy Holmes. The two immediately hit it off and became lovers, even though Stacy was already married to one of the cult's council members, Luke. After a few lunch dates, Stacy introduces the farmer to her daughter, Megan, who took a liking to him fairly quickly. Unbeknownst to anyone, Greg was being stalked by a now heartbroken Luke Holmes. When the cult grew closer to its goal, Luke became more erratic in behavior which caused his wife great worry and prompted her to reach out to Greg for help in thwarting the Cult's efforts. Greg agreed and burned bones essential to the completion of the Devourers of God's ritual. It is unknown how he was killed.
An unknown amount of time later, Stacy gifted her daughter with her own mother's necklace of a cross. Inside Addison Apartments, Stacy partook in the schemes of Alyson Rosenberg to put an end to the ritual that would bring the cult's vision into fruition. After successfully cutting the power she is last seen saying that she prayed that their mission would yield success. At some point, Luke discovered that his wife had been developing an affair with Gregory Montague, which would ebb at his sanity for the coming years. The Council, headed by Luke, had one of their female subordinates retrieve five ancient relics before she was then sacrificed in order to give Red-Eyes its first host. It seemingly abandoned this host, though, and instead attached itself to Luke, who it then convinced to murder his wife and child. Luke was apparently remorseful of this, and thus immediately hung himself in his bedroom, but his choice to commit suicide was additionally encouraged by the demon. Luke's actions saw his corpse separated from the rest of his deceased family and placed on the far edge of Neveroak Cemetery, buried on the same plot solely for legal reasons.
One of the two main antagonist is… Kenneth Phelps. Due to being born into the family that founded it, Kenneth was likely a part of the Devourers of God from a very young age. This would potentially mean that he was present for Terrence Addison's metamorphosis, as well as his family's deaths, depending on Kenneth's age. In 1975, Kenneth had a son, Travis, with a woman who is never spoken about.
Henry Fisher and Diane met in their early twenties, in a diner where the latter was employed. They had their son Sal in December of 1976.
Alright. We are going to talk about Jim Johnson again (you know, the man from the beginning of my explanations).
Despite continued nightmares of Evelyn, Jim lived out a happy life and eventually became the proud father of Larry. His happiness soon came to yet another end when after encountering what he believed to be one of the shadows that had doomed his former home, he began to suspect something sinister was occurring at the complex. In 1983, after his nightmares began to depict the death of his new family, Jim joined the Devourers of God with the intent to learn more about the cult and their plans in order to protect his family, but it was hard for him to accept : Rosenberg greeted him and requested he join the cult and herself in their efforts. When he refused, she appears in his dreams, continuing to compel him to reconsider his decision. Eventually, Jim concedes. In 1984, the day after Larry killed Mrs. Gibson's pet rabbit by accident with his firecrackers, Jim left his family in order to sabotage the cult’s plan to mass murder children across the globe in their efforts to stop the Child of the Abomination. Because yeah, a year after his induction, Jim discovered the Devourers' plan to stop the Child of the Abomination: by killing children across the globe. Intent on stopping them, Jim left his family behind, however, his efforts were futile, as it is implied he was killed during this endeavor.
On August 16, 1984, the cult enacted their plan, killing a total of 255 children and 32 adults across North America.
Among the casualties was Diane Fisher, who was killed by the cult’s leader : Kenneth Phelps, when she sacrificed herself to protect her son, Sal Fisher, inadvertently thwarting the cult’s plan.
While Sal survived, the incident left his face permanently scarred. The event was not reported by any major news outlets, indicating that the cult’s influence had potentially spread nationwide. While the details of what followed are not entirely clear, it is heavily implied that Jim was killed during this endeavor.
Through unknown means, the Devourers of God became associated with the Eye-Red Demon, putting forth an effort to summon the demon presumably to further their own agenda. The group went so far as to sacrifice one of their own cultists to serve as a temporary construct for it to inhabit. The demon later appeared before Larry Johnson the day before his father’s disappearance. This encounter led Larry to believe the demon had placed a curse upon him, a 'curse' that would foreshadow all the misfortune that would soon befall the youngest of the Johnson family. The Red-Eyed Demon furthered its goals by using the broken and gullible Luke Holmes as a host, manipulating the man into killing his own family, believing they would prove insignificant obstacles in their quest to realize the cult's goals. Despite this, the Red-Eyed Demon was thwarted by the efforts of Alyson Rosenberg, Stacy Holmes, Greg Montague, and (likely unintentionally) Sandy Sanderson when they apparently destroyed several objects pivotal in an important ritual. Likely as an act of retaliation, Charley Mansfield was selected as the demon’s next host to brutally murder Mrs. Sanderson moments before the arrival of Sal Fisher and Henry Fisher, the former of which it meets briefly in the kitchen of Larry's apartment.
So ! On August 16th 1984, the Fisher family went on a picnic to a scenic and sunny location, where a young Sal finds a dog and is eager to pet it. After some prodding, his mother allows Sal to visit the animal. However, it's revealed that the "dog" was, in fact, a man wearing a dog mask (presumably Kenneth Phelps) and wielding a shotgun. His intent was to end the boy's life due to the prophecy foretelling that a young boy would foil the Devourers Of God's plans. The boy survived the encounter but at the cost of his mother's life. For the years to come, Sal would maintain that his mother was killed by a man, not a wild animal, even if his psychiatrist and father didn't believe him. After a fateful visit to the hospital, Sal had to adapt to a new life with his prosthetic face and internalized the nickname bullies would later give him: Sally Face.
This sent Henry into a depressive state, marked by alcoholism and sleep troubles, which lasted at least four years before he was fired from his work and was able to move out of New Jersey.
Let’s talk about Larry again. Life took a turn for Larry when he played with firecrackers against his parents' wishes and accidentally killed Mrs. Gibson's pet rabbit. The same night, he encountered a Red-Eyed Demon, who reached out and touched the boy. From there, things got bad. His father disappeared the next day, the firecracker incident put him in juvie for two weeks and caused him to miss enough classes to attend summer school, and his bike got stolen. This series of unfortunate events led Larry to believe he'd been cursed.
Larry proceeded to take everything his father owned and hide it from his mother in his treehouse, hoping that one day he would return.
Moments before Sal Fisher's arrival, he was cleaning Sandy Sanderson's toilet until Charley Mansfield burst through the door and slit the woman's throat. Frozen by fear, Larry waited until the murderer left to flee to his basement room.
In 1992, Sal Fisher moved to Nockfell with his dad, residing in Addison Apartments. Even then, Nockfell was subject to ominous occurrences and events during the Fisher's stay in the apartment building, including the disappearance of various students from Nockfell High.
Halfway through unpacking, Sal decided to take a break, and, after sharing his feelings about the move to his father, left to explore the complex. After meeting the lovely Lisa Johnson, Sal is introduced to Lisa's heavy metal loving son Larry Johnson, who quickly became friends with the newcomer.
After Larry confided within Sal the details of Mrs. Sanderson's murder at the hands of Charley Mansfield, the boy is quick to offer his assistance. After devising a plan of action and receiving a walkie-talkie from Larry, Sal returns to his room to await his friend's signal.
After the officers are pulled away by a fake report of a robbery, Sal enters Room 403 and witnesses the carnage committed by Mansfield, the body outline of Sanderson, and an empty space between two Glitter Ponies.
Prior to the arrival of Sal Fisher, Charley was possibly involved with the Cult.
Why Charley stole the Glitter Pony other than to complete his collection remains unclear (there is a possibility that Red-Eyes was tying up loose ends and the "cops" that appeared at the apartments were just disposing of the fat man and capturing a patsy that would later be proven innocent).
Prior to her husband's involvement with the local cult, Mrs. Sanderson was a happily married woman who collected Glitter Ponies and made friends with the local residents of Addison Apartments.
Upon learning of her husband's dealings, Sanderson stole a sacred tome from the cultists. It was an unknown amount of time later that she reached out to Larry Johnson for some assistance with her plumbing, during which he bore witness to Sanderson's grisly slaughter at the hands of Charley.
Upon returning to Larry, they decided that they had to retrieve the stolen Glitter Pony from Charley and turn it into the authorities. A quick visit to Charley's room made it clear to Sal that the collector wouldn't let him anywhere near his toys, so he had to find another way.
When visiting the fifth floor, Sal finds old laxatives in the bathroom of Room 504 and the ghost of the young Megan Holmes, but the supernatural being is too scared to speak to Sal for long. Regardless, Sal continued with his plan.
So, Sal offers Charley the cup of tea spiked with laxatives from the restroom of room 504.
Charley eagerly ingested the "new recipe" of Addison Tea only to be torn away from his chair to the restrooms, allowing Sal to snatch his rare, blood-soaked, Glitter Pony that he pilfered from Sandy and turns it into the Detective on the first floor. Mansfield is arrested and hauled away by the local "officers", however, an imposter is incarcerated in his place thanks to the cult's influence in the community…
When Sal leaves the apartment to see Charley off, curiosity pulls him towards a coroner's van, where Mrs. Sanderson's decaying corpse lay, bagged, and awaiting processing.
Following the arrest of Charley and the coming of winter in Addison Apartments, Sandy receives a visitor in the form of Sal Fisher. She shares with the boy her fear of Red Eyes and her regret of her husband's involvement with the Devourers of God before being scared off by the aforementioned entity.
In 1993, a few months into Sal's stay at Addison Apartments, he began to become plagued by nightmares. One particular dream places him at the picnic where his mother was murdered, and later shifted into Larry's shoes when he was fixing the toilet for Sandy Sanderson on the day of her demise. After being devoured by the toilet, Sal meets the Glitter Pony he used to incriminate Charley, begging for water. When the plumbing is restored, the Glitter Pony becomes bloated, serving as a bridge for Sal to return to the "surface" to witness Mansfield murder Sanderson. A trail of bloodied footprints leads to a seated Charley Mansfield, admonishing Sal for his actions. Sal is jolted from sleep when Charley's skin peels off to reveal a coal-black demon with red eyes.
Sal confides the details of his most recent vision in Larry, who is skeptical of the whole thing. Despite this, Larry takes Sal to his tree house to tell him the story of his past. Sal immediately recognizes the Red-Eyed Demon from Larry's story (having seen it in the apartment's kitchen on his first day) and offers to help lift his "curse". After retrieving an enigmatic Puzzle Box from a trunk containing the possessions of Larry's father Jim Johnson, the two return indoors. After a failed attempt to summon Megan Holmes from the bathroom of room 504, Larry refers Sal to Todd Morrison, the resident brainiac, and believer in the unknown. Sal, eager to show Larry that spirits do exist, doesn't hesitate to pay Todd a visit.
Upon entering Todd's apartment Room 202, Sal meets Ashley Campbell. Todd agrees to help Sal by modifying his Gear Boy to better detect supernatural activity. After cannibalizing Larry's radio antennae and Walkie Talkie, the device was ready for testing in Todd's restroom. It was here that they drew out the weeping ghost of Greg Montague who is quickly scared away by the Red-Eyed Demon.
Todd recovers from the initial shock of the supernatural occurrences and advises Sal to test it further while he does some digging into the history of the murders in Addison Apartments. Sal's tests lead to the discovery of various levels of a mysterious game throughout the apartment complex and the Phantom of Jim Johnson. Sal doesn't share any of his discoveries with his friends.
Jim first appeared to Sal in the treehouse to make an effort to communicate with the boy but was only able to give reversed and chopped up dialogue; the only eligible words he spoke were "red ball", the sign that he was making contact with Sal.
When Megan remained hidden, even with the improved tracking device, Sal returned to Todd and learned that the officers that arrested Charley were not registered in the police database and the Charley Mansfield that was arrested looked nothing like the one they knew. Additionally, old reports of Megan's corpse being found by Lake Wendigo shows pictures of the girl when she was still alive.
Sal retrieves Megan's necklace from the same lost found that held the Super Gear Boy Cartridge, brings Larry back to Room 504, and uses the Super Gear Boy and cross necklace to successfully draw out Megan Holmes.
After yet another brief interaction that revealed a friendship between Jim Johnson and Megan's father Luke Holmes, she is scared away by the demon, leaving an awestruck Larry and Sal behind. They both agreed that the apartment room warranted further investigation. Larry left Sal to retrieve a crowbar from David, a former drug addict, while he returned to care for his sick mother.
A visit inside of David's Room 302 led Sal to the discovery of the missing piece to Jim Johnson's Puzzle Box. Before returning the crowbar to Larry, Sal solved the box to discover an odd Computer Chip inside. When the chip merges with Todd's computer, the Phantom gives Sal a garbled message about a "red ball". When the vision ends, Sal finds the chip has somehow been replaced by a Rubix cube, with neither Todd nor Larry having any memory of the item.
Using the crowbar to break into Room 403, Sal conversed briefly with the spirit of the recently deceased Mrs. Sanderson, before she too was frightened away by the demon.
Returning to Room 504, Sal was finally able to enter the bedroom and summon the ghost of Stacy Holmes, who says nothing before disappearing. Further in the bedroom, Sal found a hole in the wall leading to another room. Upon entering the hole, Sal summoned the hanging ghost of Luke Holmes. When Sal attempted to speak to him, the ghost shed its skin to reveal an agitated Red-Eyed Demon. Before the demon could do anything it was removed with a special device created by Todd and used by an intervening Larry.
When the threat had clearly passed, Sal comforted a grief-stricken Larry for the "abandonment" of his father… :(
The Phantom of Jim offers Sal indecipherable garbled communication throughout the events of the Bologna Incident and the death of Mrs. Packerton. It is unclear how, why, or when Mrs. Packerton joined the ranks of the Devourers of God, only that her loyalty hadn't changed over the decades. The only task she's known to have been delegated is that of abducting and deboning children before giving their flesh to the high school as "bologna"…
Most of the events following the disappearance of the Red-Eyed Demon proved mostly normal for Sal, (sans the disappearance of multiple students) who had become good friends with Todd, Ashley, Chug, and Maple. Events returned to the paranormal the day Sal had a math test. Sal, having completed his math examination well ahead of the rest of his class, distracted himself with doodles before dozing off. He is abruptly awoken by Mrs. Packerton who assures him that he did well on his test, earning ire from the bully: Travis Phelps. When the class reaches its conclusion, Travis confronts Sal and Ashley in the halls and punches the former in the face, and draws blood in the process. Sal declines all offers from his companions to get even with Travis, insisting that it would only worsen the situation with him.
The following day during lunch, Sal notes that the bologna being served tasted funnier than it usually did, causing his friends to spew their speculation over the meat's origin. Instead of leaving the matter a mystery, Sal opted to investigate and his group (excluding Chug and Maple) agreed to help.
After being harshly turned away by the lunch lady Kim Yazzie, Sal turns to alternate solutions. Suspecting that Kim was responsible for the bologna's condition, Sal teamed up with Larry and took a picture of the woman's file. As Kim Yazzie was a former Amateur Nature Photographer, Sal took a picture of a bird and presented it to Kim who was then willing to give the boy a sample of the bologna and the identity of the school's supplier: Mrs. Packerton. On his way back to the labs to test the bologna samples, Sal meets a weeping Travis in the restroom. Although Travis threatens Sal, the boy stays and comforts him, assuring him that if he ever needed a friend all he had to do was ask.
After successfully obtaining a sample of the school's bologna. Sal meets up with Travis in the boy's bathroom where a crumpled up note written by him is found on the floor next to a garbage can. Travis is not directly seen crying but is implied as Sal chats with him. He confesses to Sal that he does not really hate him or his friends. After having a heart to heart conversation with Sal he gives him an envelope which contains a page from Jim's journal.
After the bologna was examined, Sal's group concluded that they needed more information on where Packerton got the bologna. Before the lunch period was over, Sal and Larry broke into Packerton's classroom and opened her desk drawer to find many cult-like objects, including an item similar to Jim Johnson's puzzle box. Not long after Sal is plagued with another vision of The Phantom who delivers an indecipherable message before fading away.
That evening while Packerton was away, Sal and Larry broke into her apartment to find the severed head of a goat in the refrigerator and two locked doors. Behind one of the doors was Mr. Packerton, hooked up to a life support machine and stuck in a vegetative state. Sal uses the Super Gear Boy to summon Mr. Packerton as a ghost. The spirit denies knowledge of the bologna's origins and instead begs to be euthanized. Sal complies and pulls the plug.
After being forced into hiding by Ashley, whom they had mistaken for Packerton, Larry found a key to the next room: a butcher shop stained with blood, decorated with newspaper clippings of missing children, and a pentagram-decorated footlocker fridge. Sal opens the freezer to find the deboned flesh of his missing classmates. Larry vomited.
Disgusted, but satisfied that the origin of the lunchmeat had been uncovered they decided to leave and devise a way to deal with Packerton. Before they could complete their escape, Ashley discovers a hidden trash chute behind a picture of a farm and accidentally falls down into the bowels of the apartment building. Stricken with panic, the two boys act fast to save their friend.
Sal and Larry retrieve Todd and enter a room in the basement concealed by the Lost and Found shelves. Although the room is vacant, for the most part, Sal discovers a cellar door leading deeper below ground.
They enter the temple of the Devourers of God and station Todd at the entrance to keep the entrance gate open.
While traversing the structure, Todd discovered the necrolights, leaving him speculating about their origin and purpose. While Sal wanted to destroy them in case the cult were to return, Todd wished to study them further.
After navigating through the temple's maze and pressure plate puzzle gates, Sal and Larry come across a pedestal before another gate.
Sal placed the piece he stole from Packerton into the pedestal which opened the gate, leading to a room filled with piles of bones from the Cult's victims. Miraculously, Ashley was unharmed and was discovered merely unconscious atop one of the piles.
After safely extracting Ashley from the temple, the group wanted to know what they should do to ensure Packerton can't harm anyone else. Much to Sal's horror, his friends suggest killing her. Sal convinced them to sleep on it, but the next morning they learned that there was no need to take action as Packerton was killed by a drunk driver on her way home…
The Phantom of Jim offers Sal indecipherable garbled communication throughout the events of the Bologna Incident and the death of Mrs. Packerton.
In the months following, Henry secured a job that demanded his constant attention, even necessitating his absence from the apartment building entirely to attend meetings, giving him little time to spend with his son. Despite his work-oriented lifestyle persisting into the years ahead, however, he had begun to develop a strong relationship with Lisa Johnson, the building's maintenance-woman, that developed into romance, and eventually marriage.
After Packerton's death, life returned to normalcy for Sal and his gang. Following Henry and Lisa's wedding, Sal became Larry's stepbrother, Ashley left for art school, and Todd and Neil set up a home for the friends to share during their years in college.
But it was not to last. Sal's nightmares returned and the ghosts of Addison Apartments vanished. These events prompted Sal and his step-brother to investigate the cursed building one last time before Larry officially moved in with the rest of the “Ghostnabbers”.
After catching up with the residents and investigating the temple of the Devourers of God, Sal went with Ashley to Lake Wendigo. The two caught up on life and Sal confided in her the details of his returning nightmares and the ongoing investigation on the local cult.
During Sal's absence, the cult made its move and called Red-Eyes back into the physical plane of existence to infect the residents of the apartment building, including Larry.
Not wanting to fall to the demon, Larry committed suicide using an alcohol bottle with unknown contents, leaving Sal a suicide note at the base of the treehouse. His actions forever bound him to the treehouse in the years to come.
When Sal returned home, he received disturbing text messages from Larry.
He tried to call him, but no answer. (Also, I saw a detail on Sal’s harm : self-harm scars.)
When his step-brother didn't answer his cell phone, Sal rushed to the treehouse behind the apartment building, only to find Larry's suicide note detailing the purpose of his actions: the darkness was starting to infect him.
Ash came to see Sal and thought he was drunk. She argued with him for the first time and let Henry and Lisa know that Sal was not okay. She later regrets not staying with Sal.
Donning the Necrolight Guitar and requesting the assistance of Todd, Sal investigated the treehouse to find a single, empty alcohol bottle on the floor. Before a proper investigation could be made, Sal was teleported to the roof of the Apartment building, right by the Pillar by Alyson Rosenberg's Ghost.
When Sal left to contend with the growing threat with the aid of Larry's ghost, Todd was snatched by the cult and forced to become a part of Red Eyes' ritual, becoming its new physical host.
After explaining what happened to him to a blood-soaked Sal Fisher, Todd fled into the woods, fearing for both his life and his sanity. However, he was later retrieved by the authorities and was institutionalized.

On the day of the Red-Eyes Infestation, Rosenberg assisted Sal and Larry in driving back the infection, helping the former with details of the demon and latter by freeing him from his place of death/suicide. Thanks to her help, the darkness was temporarily removed and the Endless One killed, but she could not stop the necessity of the Massacre.
With the help of Larry's Ghost, Sal destroyed the pillar and (temporarily) freed the residents from the Endless One's grasp (you know, it’s Terrence !!!)
Upon entering the room of Terrence Addison, Sal learned the truth. The Endless One had made an effort to infect the building before, and succeeded in possessing all the members of the Addison clan and was halted only by a young Terrence who was able to fight off his influence long enough to slaughter his family and prevent him from spreading. The Endless One manifested inside Terrence and had been fighting to control him for decades.
Using the Necrolight Guitar, Sal killed the Endless One and briefly met the real Terrence Addison who gave him a most dreadful mission: Kill all who were infected by the Dark or the shadows will consume more people. After great deliberation, Sal conceded and killed every single resident of the apartment building, including his own father.
After the deed was done, Sal left the building to be greeted by a horrified Ashley Campbell and the Nockfell Police Department. It happened in 1999.
An unspecified amount of time later, Sal Fisher, branded by the media as "The Sally Face Killer", was held in custody and awaiting trial. Sal was assigned Dr. Enon as a psychiatrist by the courts to determine whether or not he was a victim of his own mental instability. Sal had his brain picked by Enon, eager to learn details of the convict's strange dreams and stories, and hopeful that they would explain why Sal committed mass murder.
During the penultimate session before his trial, Sal told Enon of his dream in the hospital and finding the corpse of his mother. Enon writes it off as an "interesting dream" and requested that Sal shares the details of his first day at Addison Apartments. Sal complies but is initially unwilling to divulge any details regarding Larry Johnson after high school, but when he was willing to talk the session had ended.
In his last session, Sal shared his encounters with the Red-Eyed Demon and the ghosts of Addison Apartments with Enon who rejects the idea of supernatural involvement in his patient's life. When session time had elapsed again, Sal was dragged away shouting for Enon to investigate Larry's tree house with the promise of answers waiting there.
The doctor honored Sal's request, but upon finding nothing to prove Sal's stories or innocence, the doctor became annoyed with himself for the faith he placed in the convict. Before he could leave, the Ghost of Larry appeared and begged him for aid, but the supernatural occurrences only cause Enon to faint and plummet to his death.
Afterward, the Devourers of God replaced Dr. Enon with an imposter to testify against Sal and eliminate his chances of pleading insanity, resulting in him receiving the death penalty.
Three days before Sal's interview with Faux News Anchor Clare Nettles (or the cultist who replaced her), he experiences another dream of The Phantom, this time speaking in understandable sentences. Sal then learned that Enon was dead and he had 73 hours left...
When Sal met with Clare, he affirms that he didn't want a lawyer and would be representing himself in the coming trial. Sal is told by Clare that the most popular question about him was his refusal to eat bologna. Sal reluctantly shares the full details of the Bologna Incident under two conditions: that the story would be aired unedited, and he would be told of the condition of Todd Morrison.
According to Clare Nettles, Todd had become reclusive and mentally unstable, speaking only to plead for death in his padded room in a special hospital. His condition was only worsening as he remained the demon's vessel. Sal begs to see him, claiming to know what was wrong. During his trial, Sal recounts the events that of that fateful day, leading up to the mass murder.
After the 1999 Mass Murder at Addison Apartments, the complex falls into complete disrepair, covered in a great deal of graffiti, the only legible pieces reading "NO MORE LIES" and "AGONY". It is presumably escheated.
In 2001, with a mountain of testimonies, a replaced Dr. Enon, and a concerned Ashley Campbell against him, Sal was deemed guilty despite his best efforts to warn the populace of the cult's activities and the spread of Red Eyes. He was sentenced to death (a ruling that Ashley strongly fought against) and sent to the electric chair three years later with a distraught Ashley Campbell as his only witness.
Also, Travis may have become good friends with Sal as he was present at the boy's trial despite not losing any loved ones in the Mass Murder at Addison Apartments. He was present when Sal was sentenced to death.
In the days that followed Sal's execution, Travis acted as an informant for Ashley and Neil from within the Devourers of God, feeding them critical information about their activities and inner workings, details sufficient to destroy the Phelps Ministry and the temple below.
Larry's body is still not found even after Sal was executed for a long time. Todd was captured and held inside the church by The Cult.
Following an unsuccessful rescue attempt with Neil, Ash went to the treehouse to find Larry, where he asked Ash for help by burning the treehouse to hypothetically free him from his place of death to better assist her. Unfortunately, his ghost was lost in the void and stuck inside the temple's center chamber, doomed to wander for days.
Following Sal's execution, Jim’s soul resided in the House in the Void, tinkering with various inventions to feed the fascination his career as an engineer once gave him. On the day Ashley Campbell visited Sal's grave, Sal was guided through the void back to Jim by the Mother Tree. Thanks to Jim's guidance, Sal managed to collect the pieces of his fragmented soul, align the pyramids of Asintmah thus allowing him to return to the physical plane, and finish what he had started.
When Ash checks Sal's tomb, it is written with the following: "Son of Henry and Diane Fisher. 1976 - 2004.", and Ash comments, "I wish you were here, Sal..."
As the young woman shares with him the details of her efforts to derail the plans of the cult, Sal took measures to return to the physical, assembling the fragments of his soul that were scattered across multiple realities upon his death with the Three Pyramids of Asintmah (created by Jim Johnson in order to resurrect the "Child of the Abomination", the one prophesied to be the enemy of the Devourers of God).
During his travels, he recounts old memories of his past, going as far back as to his first day of school and as recently as a movie night he enjoyed with his stepbrother.
With aid from Jim Johnson and Ashley Campbell, Sal returned to the physical plane as a spirit and latched himself onto the dying form of the latter, granting her unique abilities that could hurt The Dark. The two, now one, returned to the Phelps Temple to find the center chambers to be barricaded.
Travis tried to persuade Ash to leave the church when both Neil and Maple were captured but brusquely forced Ash to leave regardless if she had the will to destroy the temple or not. The two since fell out of contact, but the boy's chance to redeem himself came as the final stages of the cult's plan came into fruition.
While searching for a means of deactivating the lockdown, Sal found the notes of Jim Johnson from his time among the cult's ranks and passage back to the spectral plane.
Upon entering the center chamber, Sal meets the father of Travis: Kenneth Phelps. After a brief interaction, the cultists and the Plague of Shadows assault Ashley and Sal (on the spectral plane).
Travis drove a blade into the stomach of his infected father, who admonished the boy for his betrayal but was met with resentment. In the end, Travis gave his life so the Void could be closed and played a key role in the fall of the Dark.
Sal is almost overtaken by the shadows but is saved by the aged form of his stepbrother, Larry.
He met Sal's ghost in the chamber, exchanging a heartfelt hug before helping Sal and Ash defeat the Devour of Gods and rescue Todd, using the amulet (The Deadstone is an ancient relic that he received from Miss Rosenberg. It allows Larry to interact with the living world)
to stop Endless in the battle, putting strain on the entity. After the battle, the friends enjoyed a brief reunion that ended with Larry expressing his gratitude for their companionship before disappearing without a trace.
With the combined efforts of the three, the Void was vanquished and the Plague of Shadows was stopped : As the Cult was on the cusp of realizing its ambitions, the Ghosts of Sal Fisher and Larry Johnson and an empowered Ashley Campbell killed its members and Travis dragged its leader into the Void. With the sealing of the Void and the waning strength of the Dark, the Devourers of God finally fell apart.
Todd eventually found by Sal and Ashley, held up by his arms while the other four victims were slaughtered and hung up by their feet. The boy remained unconscious throughout the battle his friends endured but finally came to when the Phelps Ministry was destroyed and enjoyed a brief reunion with his old friends before Larry's ghost disappeared without a trace.
The moment of victory is short-lived among the old friends as Larry vanished from existence, however, Sal would never stop his efforts to find him.
Nockfell, along with most of the world, became infected by the Plague of Shadows in 2004 due to the machinations of the Devourers of God. Though the Void was eventually sealed, 33% of the world (and a presumably large portion of Nockfell's population) were consumed by the shadows completely.
