Fire Country went to the county fair this week and as per usual with this young show, things did not go to plan. We saw a fair ride malfuction and cause complete chaos, Eve beginning to work towards a new goal by shadowing Manny (Which led him to jump to conclusions) and Gabi trying to shake jitters from the worst call of her young career. Let's Discuss!

This Week's Disaster:First of all this episode brought back my phobia of fair rides. I have always said that anything that can be put together and torn down within a few hours is not something that should be considered safe, and this episode showed why. With the fair in town, you just knew that we weren't going to see our characters frolicking around and being care free for fourty five minutes. So when the camera focused on the ride that was obviously about to spin out of control, I knew that this would be our disaster. The ride malfuctioning and spewing pieces of metal everywhere set off a chain of events that at times bordered on the absurd. For example, was it really necessary for the poor teenage ride operator to be crushed after Jake pressured him to get to the shut-off switch? No. Also, the child of Aaron, Bode's old baseball nemesis running and hiding after being flung from the ride seemed like a bit too much. That being said, the action was engaging and the teams worked diligently to save people, so I will cut them some slack becuase at the end of the day we are watching this show for entertainment, not realism. This disaster also worked as a catalyst for the personal drama we have come to know when it comes to this show.

The Character Conflicts:Even though this episode had innocent fair-going victims being attacked by a ride designed for fun doesn't mean we cannot have character drama! At the top of the show's hour we saw Gabi wrestling with some latent PTSD because of the Meg situation that happened a few episodes back. At first, I wanted to chastise the show for just now getting to this, but then it is also real that someone can be triggered by a traumatic event and regress in certain aspects of their life. Gabi being unable to perform EMT skills she was being trained for was uncomfortable to watch because she was abandoning patients after Sharon gave her an order. Running from the problem is not a solution and it was good that Sharon called her onto the carpet for doing that. Her hesitation could have cost the lady who went into cardiac arrest her life. Hopefully Gabi can move past this and get back on track to pass her EMT course so she can move out of probie status. She wasn't the only Perez acting out of pocket, her dad Manny did not have the best look in this episode.

The idea of Eve shadowing Manny with 3 rock is a great writing idea. We saw that being with Sharon in incident command just ain't it for her, so her trying to learn from Manny got me excited. What wasn't good about this was Manny's paranoia that Eve was a narc for Sacremento about 3 rock to take his job. First of all, why would Eve willfully tell Manny she was in contact with Sacremento if she had some nefarious plan to unsurp him as 3 Rock's leader? Her intentions were nothing but above board and Manny acted like a complete jerk for no reason. Yes, he has been down and out since he relapsed with his gambling, but that is not an excuse to let your mind take you places that aren't even accurate and act on those delusions. It is good that he talked to Eve and realized this, but Manny hasn't had the best string of episodes lately, which is disappointing becuase he was one of my favorite characters when the show started.

Odds and Ends:* The fatal attraction vibes with Rebecca being so upset Bode rejected her were strong. Their casual hook up seemed to be just that, casual. So why was she throwing around 'break up' and drinking sorrow beer becuase Bode was no longer interested? Maybe it was a crossing of signals, but her behavior was weird. It is good that she came around and they agreed to be friends, and hopefully she sticks to that.

* Jake and Cara? I think I like it. I admittedly am not Jake's biggest fan but he has been on an upswing ever since making up with Bode. Cara seems like a much better fit over Gabi.

* Sharon is on track to get Jake's kidney which is good because I hated seeing our show's mom and dad discussing what would happen if she died.

That is it for now! The show is taking yet another brief pause for a few weeks, so we will have to wait and see how the continuing plot threads progress. What did you think of this one? And are you uneasy that the show hasn't addressed the fire bug we saw two episodes ago? Let me know in the comments!var authorcode='BW';

Lori is intent on taking Bobby back from Lincoln. Rather than take Leni's suggestion of hanging out with Ronnie Anne, Lori decides to do so by taking an unconscious Clyde to the fair as her date. Bobby is oblivious to the fact that Clyde is passed out, but after Lori pretend flirts with Clyde, he begins feeling jealous. Lincoln, not wanting to lose his bro, begins inviting Bobby to ride extreme rides, which successfully keeps him away from Lori.

The whole family, except for Haley (Sarah Hyland), heads to the school fair where everyone gets something to do. Gloria (Sofa Vergara) signed Jay (Ed O'Neill) up to be a fair cop; Manny (Rico Rodriguez) participates in the cake-baking competition; Alex (Ariel Winter) and Luke (Nolan Gould) fight for the same girl; Cam (Eric Stonestreet) worries about his work as a football coach; and Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.

Phil and Claire celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary and they both want to surprise each other with their gifts. Claire, who has a tradition of making the worst gifts, this time has prepared a surprise for Phil at home and she tries to make him go back home. Phil, however, does not want to leave the fair, as he arranged with the band who plays at the fair to sing a song for her. Phil manages to keep Claire at the fair till the time that he would get on stage and sing for her, but his surprise is ruined when their pharmacist, Harold Grossman (Rick Cowling), gets on stage right before Phil is supposed to get and sings amazingly. Phil feels frustrated to learn that Claire has loved Harold's singing and does not want to sing anymore, so he goes back home with Claire who surprises him with Chinese acrobats. Phil loves Claire's gift, and Claire manages for the first time to give him a gift which is actually good.

Manny participates in the cake-baking competition, something that Jay does not like since the only participants are old ladies and he believes that Manny does not fit there. Gloria, to get rid of Jay, signs him up to be a fair cop. Gloria, realizing later that Jay was right about Manny not fitting to the competition, decides to destroy Manny's cake so he will not be able to participate. When Manny sees the destroyed cake, he believes that one of the other contestants did it to exclude him from the competition.

Jay, as a fair cop, has to be partnered with some other guy named Derrick (Jordan Peele). The problem is that Derrick is the guy who he fought with few minutes earlier about a parking space. The two of them seem to get along though and they enjoy their duties as fair cops.

Back in the day, I lived in Wyandotte for over three years in a cute upper flat on Davis Street. Pink flowered drapes and old, register heaters added to the charm. I could hear the seagulls in the summertime. I worked in programming for the city of Wyandotte's cable department. We covered every day of the art fair, broadcasting a live show from the studio. We interviewed artists, and I remember decorating the studio with a kiddie pool, my parent's picnic table, and arranging with local shops to borrow paintings and plants.

A terrible storm tore through the fair the summer of 1995. We sent video cameras out to capture footage of ripped tents and puddles in the streets. Once you pour yourself into a fair, it worms into your heart like a high school crush you can't forget. I'm still fond of it, and I try to walk through it every year. It was fun when I could bike from my adorable flat. Now I have to find parking like everyone else.

I've also purchased a hair braider, a purple sweatshirt with a peace symbol, tie dyed T-shirts, and food, food, food! Fairs are for food; elephant ears in particular. I go just because I know the CIA will be there: the Cheesesteak Institute of America. They grill fresh chicken or steak hoagies with onions. My favorite fair treat. Wyandotte businesses often have sidewalk sales. In the heart of the action right on Biddle Avenue is a Sanders candy store. Hot fudge cream puff, anyone?

The Wyandotte Street Art Fair is a juried fair. Booths range from jewelry, photography, woodworking, metals, glass, pottery, and painting. Many of the 250 artists also set up booths the next week in Ann Arbor, another fair I love like a college sweetheart. I think Wyandotte's fair is more accessible and less intense than Ann Arbor. You can walk the entire fair in an hour or two.

From a BMX competition to handmade hats, there's something new every year. Music plays a big part in the ambiance of the fair. Bands play every night along the riverfront across from Bishop Park. For more information and to view the band schedule, check out

The film chronicles the history of the State Fair of Texas beginning in 1886. It covers the banning of gambling at the fair, early Midway rides and some of Dallas' firsts such as electric lights, power stations and air planes. Old stock footage of the State Fair shows why it attracted people from all over the country. It includes scenes from the bake-offs and cook-offs held annually, plus a comical scene that has women singing a song about SPAM. A Fair to Remember also shows foods that have been included at the fair. Interviews of attendees provide a look into historical Dallas. 589ccfa754
