Title: Performance Investigation of Onipko Rotor Wind Electric Turbine (ORWET) using Dimensional and Numerical Approach
The Onipko Rotor Wind Electric Turbine (ORWET) is a small-scale horizontal-axis wind turbine invented by Dr. Oleksiy Onipko. This study focuses on predicting the coefficient of performance (Cp) for the ORWET-110 model, with a rotor diameter of 1.128 m. Two prototypes with rotor diameters of 150 mm and 250 mm were designed and manufactured for experimental testing. The experimental data was used for dimensional analysis via the Buckingham Pi-theorem, and a correlation between torque and rotor diameter was plotted. The resulting equation was applied to estimate the power output of ORWET-110, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis validated the findings, showing a 6.5% average deviation in Cp. The study highlights that ORWET-110 operates effectively at low wind speeds (from 2.5 m/s), with its compact size and versatility making it suitable for diverse applications.
