Sakamoto Elementary is a vibrant and diverse community where students, families, and staff come together to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. With an active PTO and strong family involvement, our school thrives on collaboration and connection.
Guided by our vision of empowering students to achieve their highest potential for lifelong learning and leadership, we are committed to helping every child succeed. Our mission is to provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that nurtures academic excellence, encourages student voice, and supports social-emotional growth and physical well-being.
At Sakamoto, we don’t just educate—we inspire confident, compassionate learners ready to lead and thrive.
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a school-based, non-profit group dedicated to building a strong, connected community that supports Sakamoto’s academic and enrichment programs.
Our PTO is made up of parents, caregivers, teachers, staff, and administrators working together to:
Create fun and meaningful school events
Provide classroom resources and student programs
Support teachers and staff
Make each school year better than the last
The Sakamoto PTO raises money for vital school programs that are not funded by Oak Grove School District.
This includes educational enrichment programs with an emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), Language Arts, Reading and P.E.
These enrichment programs are only made available through the support of Sakamoto families.
ART VISTA/ ART LAB
During lunch recess, our students have a quiet indoor option with art, games, instruments, reading, and more. Students explore art history and techniques while building creativity, confidence, and critical thinking skills.
LITTLE HEROES
Each class participates in one-on-one game sessions with a dedicated coach, giving students the chance to stay active while building teamwork, healthy communication skills, and confidence.
COUNSELING
The school counselor provide students with a safe, open environment in which they can feel free to express their emotions. Counselors are able to introduce students to techniques that will help them to deal with the stressors of their lives.
ASSEMBLIES
School assemblies foster community spirit, boost student engagement through interactive learning, and support emotional well-being by creating safe spaces for shared experiences.
G.A.T.E.
Gifted and Talented Education is provided for all identified students beginning in fourth grade. The PTO offers G.A.T.E students the opportunity to sign up for extra after school learning opportunities.
CLASSROOM FUNDING
Sakamoto PTO proudly provides extra funding for educational and fun experiences both inside and outside of the classrooms (guest speakers, field trips, classroom supplies, online programs, etc.).
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (S.E.L)
We believe in educating the “whole child.” Through SEL, children develop resilience, practice teamwork and problem-solving, and learn to understand and respect different perspectives—skills that support their success both in school and in life.
SCIENCE VISTA
Volunteer-led program delivering science education to TK through 6th grade classrooms. The curriculum ties into their appropriate grade level learning and provides opportunities for hands-on learning, teamwork, experimentation, and fun!
