The definitive, primary authoritative source for the life of the saint is the Vita Silvestri (Life of St. Sylvester). This text was written in the late 13th century by Andrea di Giacomo da Fabriano (a monk who drew his records directly from St. Sylvester's living disciples and contemporary companions).

The physical book, "The Saints of the Benedictine Order of Montefano", was compiled and published in 1972 by the Holy Face Monastery in Clifton, New Jersey. The author credited on the cover, Venerable Andrew Jacobi, O.S.B. Silv., was an eminent Sylvestrine monk. In this book, he translated, adapted, and collected those ancient 13th-century accounts (like the Vita Silvestri) into an English text.
