Jesus meets his mother
"We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. "
Luke 2: 34-35
Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, Jesus’ mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
Reflection:
Jesus has been through immense pain, he has been hurt, embarrassed, and humiliated. He looks heavily disheveled and then he sees his mother Mary. If you are a parent, can you imagine seeing your child and be defenseless to stop this. For every pain that Jesus had his mother had three times that amount, for she had to watch the person she loved go through this torture. Even through all of this pain and suffering though, Mary is there to give Jesus the comfort of her presence. This is perfect love, the love that each and every one of us should try to achieve. I challenge you to try to show this perfect love that Mary showed to her son. Obviously, none of us our perfect, but we can try to be the best version of ourselves, and love in the best version we can.
Prayer:
Jesus, you feel so alone with all those people yelling and screaming at you. You don't like the words they are saying about you, and you look for a friendly face in the crowd. You see your mother. She can't make the hurting stop, but it helps to see that she is on your side, that she is suffering with you. Help us to show this perfect love that your mother showed in our every day life. Help us when we follow God's plan to feel the same comfort as you did when you saw your mother.
