Simon helps Jesus carry his cross
"We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. "
Mark 15:21
And they compelled a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.
Reflection:
Simone of Cyrene was called out of the crowd to help Jesus. Maybe he volunteered, maybe he was simply chosen by the Romans, but either way, he plays a crucial role in assisting Jesus on this journey. When have you been asked to help someone carry their cross in life? How did you respond to this? In each and every one of our lives, we all have struggles. We all have our burdens and despairs. Our regrets and sorrows. All of these make up the cross that we carry. Just like Jesus, these can be hard to carry all alone. I encourage you to find people in your life that you can share your cross with. Pray for the lord to send you a Simon of Cyrene in your life. And then return the favor to those people, be a Simon of Cyrene to others. The world becomes a better place when we work together and help people carry their crosses.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to remember that we are called to help each other on the way, along this way, even if it may mean carrying each other on this journey. You did it for us, let us follow Your example and do it for others. We pray that as we help others that you send others like Simon of Cyrene to help us
