SailPulse Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 5, 2026
The short version: Your sailing data stays on your phone. SailPulse has no accounts, collects no personal information, and never records your identity. If you choose to turn on anonymous usage sharing, the app sends only summary statistics — never your location or GPS tracks.
Data stored on your device
SailPulse records your sailing sessions — GPS position, speed, heading, heel and pitch angles, wind information, and detected maneuvers — and stores them only on your device. This data is never uploaded unless you export it yourself (for example, as a CSV file you share).
Location
Your location is used while recording a session to calculate speed, course, distance, and maneuvers, and on demand to fetch wind and current conditions from nearby NOAA weather stations. Location data is processed on your device and stored only on your device.
Motion sensors
Device motion sensors measure your boat's heel and pitch during a session. This data stays on your device.
Optional anonymous usage sharing (off by default)
If you turn on "Share anonymous usage data" in the Sessions screen, the app sends a short summary after each sailing session: duration, distance, average and top speed, tack and gybe counts, heel angles, boat type, wind speed, wave condition, point-of-sail breakdown, app version, and platform (iOS/Android). GPS coordinates and tracks are never sent. The summary is tagged with a random identifier generated on your device; it is not derived from your device hardware and cannot be linked to you. You can turn sharing off at any time, and demo sessions are never reported.
What we never collect
No names, email addresses, accounts, contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, or precise location on our servers. No data is sold or shared with third parties. No tracking across apps or websites.
Third-party services
Wind, weather, and current data are fetched from NOAA public services; these requests contain approximate coordinates of the station being queried and are subject to NOAA's own policies. No analytics or advertising SDKs are used.
Data retention and deletion
Sessions on your device can be deleted in the app at any time. Anonymous usage summaries, if you opted in, are retained to produce aggregate statistics; because they are anonymous, we cannot identify which ones came from you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this page with a new date.
