Advanced temperature and pressure controlled triaxial testing
Advanced temperature and pressure controlled triaxial testing
The triaxial setup consists of a specimen assembly, a loading system with a high-precision actuator (250 kN) to apply axial force, and a temperature control system using a chiller unit to maintain -20°C to +65°C with real-time monitoring. Pore pressure is regulated via backpressure and gas controllers, while a confining pressure system maintains up to 20 MPa using silicone oil. An LVDT tracks displacement, and a data acquisition system records key parameters, ensuring precise control and analysis of gas hydrate-bearing sediment behavior. The setup is located at the Geomechanics Laboratory (BSB -137) in BSB building on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India.
