The original name of the work is Al-Jami Al-Musnad Al-Sahih Al-Mukhtasar Min Umur Rasul Allah Sall Allah Alayhi Wa-Sallam Wa-Sunanihi Wa-Ayyamihi ( ), which means "The shortened authentic (sahih) collection with isnads from the affairs of the messenger, peace be upon him, and his traditions and his days".
At the time when Bukhari saw [the earlier] works and conveyed them, he found them, in their presentation, combining between what would be considered sahih (correct) and hasan (good) and that many of them included daf (weak) hadith.
