Wrist temperatures taken with non-contact remote infrared thermometers are fairly accurate. Research shows in some circumstances, remote wrist temperatures are more accurate than those taken in the center of the forehead but less accurate than those taken at the temples.

Don't be surprised if your baby poops when you try to take a rectal temperature. Anal stimulation is so effective at promoting bowel movements in small children that it is used as a treatment for functional constipation in small children.

Contactless forehead thermometers are a good choice for screening for COVID. Anything over 100.5 F could be a sign of an infection, which could be COVID or another illness. Keep in mind: Using a forehead thermometer in direct sunlight and testing a child who has been running around or is overheated could give you an inaccurately high temperature.

The first thing you will need to do is get yourself an oven thermometer. I will link the one I use HERE. This is a Taylor Precision Large Dial Kitchen Cooking Oven Thermometer. I like this thermometer because it has a large print, that you can see through the oven door without having to open it. I find it to be highly accurate and easy to read. If you order it before this weekend, you will have it in time to check your oven temp this weekend and either calibrate your oven in time for the holiday, or adjust your cook times.

The thermometer I linked above hangs from the oven racks. The first thing you want to do is move a rack to the very center of the oven and hang your thermometer from it. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. If you have a digital oven, it will signal when the oven thinks it has reached 350 degrees. If you do not have a digital oven, let the oven preheat for twenty minutes. When your oven has preheated, check your thermometer with the door closed if possible (light on and look through the window) or check it quickly by opening the door. See what the oven thermometer says is the ACTUAL temperature. Note how far it is off temperature.

This is to ensure the cook time and temperature on all your holiday dishes, including the turkey are cooking at the proper temperature and time so that they come out perfectly. I know how stressful cooking can be for many of us on this big day and this temperature check can make a big difference in how your food comes out.

The normal body temperature of a person varies depending on gender, recent activity, food and fluid consumption, time of day, and, in women, the stage of the menstrual cycle. Normal body temperature can range from 97.8 degrees F (or Fahrenheit, equivalent to 36.5 degrees C, or Celsius) to 99 degrees F (37.2 degrees C) for a healthy adult. A person's body temperature can be taken in any of the following ways:

Orally. Temperature can be taken by mouth using either the classic glass thermometer, or the more modern digital thermometers that use an electronic probe to measure body temperature.

Axillary. Temperatures can be taken under the arm using a glass or digital thermometer. Temperatures taken by this route tend to be 0.3 to 0.4 degrees F lower than those temperatures taken by mouth.

Body temperature may be abnormal due to fever (high temperature) or hypothermia (low temperature). A fever is indicated when body temperature rises about one degree or more over the normal temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Hypothermia is defined as a drop in body temperature below 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

The respiration rate is the number of breaths a person takes per minute. The rate is usually measured when a person is at rest and simply involves counting the number of breaths for one minute by counting how many times the chest rises. Respiration rates may increase with fever, illness, and other medical conditions. When checking respiration, it is important to also note whether a person has any difficulty breathing.

Ask your doctor or another healthcare professional to teach you how to use your blood pressure monitor correctly. Have the monitor routinely checked for accuracy by taking it with you to your doctor's office. It is also important to make sure the tubing is not twisted when you store it and keep it away from heat to prevent cracks and leaks.

They are accurate, however, they only measure the temperature on the surface of whatever they touch..........so speaking from experience, the surface of a paperboard carton (with rock solid food stuffs in it) will be significantly warmer than the contents, so you will need to be prepared to open cartons.

So frozen solid is frozen solid and unless the product is moving in a truck for days at 0C, once palletized and wrapped the temperature of the contents is not going to budge............I always recorded the temperature the refer was set to and a visual inspection of the FROZEN skids..............in a food safety/quality standpoint..........there really is no difference between -15C and -20C

I don't see an issue,we use calibrated daily infrared thermometers to check the temperatures of our incoming ingredients. We open the cardboard cases and take the ingredient temperatures for the first, middle and last pallet on the trailer. I agree with Scampi....ThermoWorks thermometers (infrared food safety thermometers)

We've done some local testing and found a big variation in temperature readings compared to a calibrated probe - especially with frozen foods. The problem is that the emissivity of the carton, packaging or product causes wide variations in the reading.

Most food grade IR thermometers are set to an emissivity number of 0.9 to 0.95 as this is equivalent to the surface of fresh meat, most medical IR thermometers have a lower level as they are set up for human skin temperature, but the emissivity of food packaging can be very different.

Hi @Hoff455. Thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion about allowing the Sense to monitor temperature at any time with us. We rely on feedback like yours to help us develop products and features that we know our community wants to see. It's a shame that is the way you decide how to add a feature. Especially with the Covid-19 virus going around right now, keeping track of someone's temperature is very important. That is the reason I bought my first Smartband was to keep track of my temp. I am not so much concerned about the running and exercising part of this smartwatch, I am more interested in the sleep tracking, ECG, temperature monitoring, and a little bit about blood pressure monitoring.

To be able to check temp at anytime throughout the day is important during a pandemic like we have right now.

The Sense will measure your temp only during your sleep, then with their AI it will try and diagnose to tell you if you are getting sick. You cannot check your temp at random times during the day. Yes, you are correct, it shows body temp. If you use one of the touchless thermometers you can check on your forehead or wrists. Doctors offices use them, I have one. The oral thermometers are as close to core temps as you will get to core temp, well or the other one, but I don't like the other one personally. You are correct on the part "I never saw the sense advertised to measure core temp or temp on demand". There are several that will check it on demand and that is why I posted my original comment. Throughout the day I check my temp, each morning before going to work I check with my oral thermometer and throughout the day I check with the one I have on my wrist now throughout the day. (not a FitBit) Temp and blood oxygen, a couple of important things to keep track of during this pandemic that doesn't seem to be going away soon. I am sorry if you think my wanting to be able to check my temp anytime during the day is "throwing fitbit under the bus".

There is a cool free clock face that senses changes in body temperature. Its called The tiny body temp watcher for the fitbit smart watch. It told me that my temp was higher than normal. I was working outside raking leaves.

Hi @SunsetRunner, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to allow skin temperature readings during day. Thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request. A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon. ff782bc1db
