Welcome to Sage Gardens and Art Studio
I'm Ruth Hunter — artist, author, content creator, and lifelong lover of all things handmade and homegrown. This is the creative home my husband Richard and I have built together, and we are so glad you found your way here.
Sage Gardens and Art Studio grew out of a simple desire to share the creative life we love with people who love it too. Richard and I share a passion for making things by hand — you will often find us side by side, working on rug hooking projects together, enjoying the quiet rhythm of creating as a couple. There is something deeply satisfying about a shared creative life, and that spirit is woven into everything we do here.
Whether I am hooking a rug, make a quilt, picking up a crochet hook, sketching in a journal, or losing myself in a watercolor, creating has always been the way I make sense of the world — and this space is an extension of that. Here you will find a little bit of everything that fills our days: rug hooking and fiber arts, drawing and watercolor, quilting, and the kinds of arts and crafts projects that make an ordinary afternoon feel like time well spent.
I also write and illustrate — children's books, cozy mysteries, and nonfiction — and I believe storytelling and making things by hand come from the same place inside us.
Our grown children and grandchildren are the heart behind much of what we create and share. They remind us why stories matter, why handmade gifts carry a weight that store-bought ones never will, and why passing down the love of making things is one of the most meaningful things we can do.
My YouTube channel, Sage Gardens and Art Studio, is where I bring all of it to life on video — tutorials, project walkthroughs, creative inspiration, and the honest, unhurried conversation of one creative soul talking to another.
I hold an AA in Graphic Design, a BS in Writing, and a Master's in English and Education, and I spent years teaching high school videography — which means I came to this work with both a love of learning and a passion for helping others find their own creative voice.
Richard is a disabled Veteran from the Navy. He served during the Viet Nam conflict. He has an Associates degree, went to school for greenhouse management and has a BS in Fine arts from Drury University. He did most of his work in ceramics but loves all types of art and nature. The chickens are his project but we both take care of them.
Pull up a chair. Stay a while. There is always something in the works around here — and we would love for you to be part of it.
