Our design methodology starts with embracing a classic design studio format. We organize ourselves to facilitate an open, collaborative environment which allows for a variety of creations, challenges, and reflections on our work. For “Cloud Tower,” the design was assisted by several iterations and a conversation over a stack of books. This influenced the design throughout the entire process incorporating the time-tested means of drawing, sketching and model building, and ultimately the use of current software and technologies that assisted our search. We wanted a meaningful design that responded to the streetscape at a human scale while also connecting to the larger environment. The angular, sculptural form of the tower is intended to catch the changing patterns of light, clouds and the surrounding area as the sun moves across the sky.
