About Me

I am Safkat Islam, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), aspiring to pursue a M.S/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. My academic journey has been shaped by a passion for computational solid mechanics and fracture mechanics, driving me to explore innovative solutions in these areas. 

During my time at KUET, I served as the Assistant Public Media and Relations Officer for CADERS, the Design Engineering Club, where I gained valuable experience in teamwork and leadership. My undergraduate thesis, “Numerical Investigation of Stress Field Near the Vertex of a 3D Three-Layer Elastic Bonded Joint,”, involved advanced computational tools such as ABAQUS CAE, IGOR Pro, and MATLAB to analyze intricate stress patterns.

I have also contributed to various impactful projects, including: 

• Thermo-Mechanical Stresses of Two-Layered Composite Cylindrical Pressure Vessel Using FEA 

• Simulation of High Impact Velocity of a Bullet to a Steel Plate in LS-Dyna

• FEM Modeling for Piezoelectric (PZT-5A) Energy Harvesters

• Microstructure Evaluation Using Neper 

 My research interests encompass computational and experimental solid mechanics, fracture and joints, composites, piezoelectric energy harvesting, multiscale modelling of composites, and metamaterials. I am eager to collaborate on cutting-edge projects and further my expertise in these areas through advanced academic opportunities.

• In addition to my academic and personal pursuits, I have a basic proficiency in German, holding an A1 level certification. Learning new languages and cultures further fuels my curiosity and broadens my perspective.

• Beyond academics, I am a passionate sports enthusiast. I closely follow Real Madrid and Manchester United in football. I have been a long-time fan of Australian cricket since the legendary Ricky Ponting era. Although I used to enjoy tennis, my interest declined after Roger Federer’s retirement.
