Stillaguamish Village

Stillaguamish Village was designed in a highly collaborative process with tribal members and our mult-disciplinary design team. The village is the first contemporary village on traditional Stillaguamish land along the Stillaguamish River in 150 years since their villages were destroyed and land taken 150 years ago by colonizers. The tribe acquired an 80 acre forested site, and our Design Team worked with tribal members to generate a culturally and sustainably responsive master plan and buildings in a 3 phased development that includes single family homes, a community center, wellness center, elders housing, and canoe carving workshop all designed to reflect and honor the plank house architectural traditions of the tribe.

Skokomish Tribe Community Center

The Skokomish Tribe Community Center was designed in a very interactive and collaborative design process that involved the Skokomish Tribal Council and tribal members to program and design a culturally and environmentally responsive tribal center master plan and community center that combines a culturally gathering space and a tournament size gymnasium with a community kitchen, fitness center, Elder's Dining room, and cultural classroom. It is a junction between modernity and tradition, between elders and youth. It also provides a place for all tribal members from several different religious communities to share Skokomish culture in a neutral space. The project was designed to be Net Energy Zero.
