The careers team at DMU can be accessed through the details provided below. Which also includes the ability to book appointments with the employability team staff, in which support can be provided on formatting and presenting CV’s and general career support with any concerns an individual may hold. We met up with one of the members of the employability team to talk about disclosure and ‘career gaps’.
They suggested you put on your CV and personal statements whatever you are comfortable with, you do not need to disclose your sex worker status. If you want, you can put your time working in the industry as owning your own business. But be prepared that you may be asked follow up questions that you can answer as vaguely as you want, such as saying it was a customer service based business, but remember whatever approach you take you never have to disclose your sex worker status. If you choose to treat it as a career gap then you are advised to focus on your previous employment and/or your voluntary experience.
Don’t have voluntary experience ? Contact Public Engagement at DMU for opportunities. Make an appointment with the employability team view MyGateway or check out DMU Employability (Alumnus can still receive career support). See some sample CVs and Personal Statements below.

The English Collective of Prostitutes fights against being treated like criminals. We’ve helped sex workers win against charges of soliciting, brothel-keeping & controlling – the last two most often used against women who are working together for safety. The English Collective of Prostitutes (ECP) is a network of sex workers working both on the streets and indoors campaigning for decriminalization and safety. Most sex workers are mothers trying to do the best for their children. We campaign against austerity cuts and for housing and other survival resources so that any of us can leave prostitution if and when we want.
