SafeScan team ("we," "us," or "our") built SafeScan as a commercial application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Device Sensor Data
SafeScan accesses the following device sensors to provide its core features. This data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
• Camera & Depth Sensors: We access your device's camera (including LiDAR and TrueDepth sensors where available) to detect hidden cameras through reflection and infrared analysis. Video frames are processed in real-time and are not recorded or stored.
• Magnetometer: We read magnetic field data from your device's magnetometer to detect magnetic anomalies that may indicate hidden electronic devices. This data is used in real-time and is not stored.
• Bluetooth: We scan for nearby Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices to identify potentially suspicious devices. We collect device identifiers (UUIDs), signal strength (RSSI), advertisement data, and service information. This data is kept in memory only during your scanning session.
• Compass/Location: We access your device's compass heading for directional guidance. We request location permission solely for compass functionality. We do not track or store your geographic location.
1.2 Network Data
• Local Network Scanning: When you perform a LAN scan, we discover devices on your local WiFi network by scanning IP addresses and open ports. We collect device names, hostnames, service banners, and HTTP headers from discovered devices. This data is stored locally on your device in a Core Data database so you can review scan history.
• WiFi Information: We access your current WiFi network name (SSID), BSSID, subnet, and gateway information to perform network scans. This data is displayed to you and is not transmitted externally.
1.3 Data Transmitted to Third-Party Services
The following data is sent to external services only when you explicitly use specific features:
• Speed Test: When you run a speed test, your device connects to Ookla speed test servers to measure download speed, upload speed, and latency. This reveals your public IP address and ISP to those servers. We send random test data and a user-agent identifier ("SafeScan/1.0").
• Public IP & Geolocation: When you view your network information, we fetch your public IP address from ipify.org and geolocation data (city, region, country, ISP) from ipapi.co. This data is displayed to you and is not stored persistently.
• Subscription Services: We use Adapty to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases. Adapty may collect device identifiers and purchase information as described in their privacy policy (https://adapty.io/privacy).
1.4 Data Stored on Your Device
• LAN Scan History: Scan results (discovered devices, IP addresses, open ports, device names, timestamps) are stored in a local database on your device. This data never leaves your device.
• App Preferences: We store your onboarding completion status using local device storage (UserDefaults).
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
• We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal contact information.
• We do not collect or store your geographic location.
• We do not record or store camera images or video.
• We do not have our own analytics or tracking servers.
• We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties for advertising purposes.
3. How We Use Your Information
All sensor and network data is used exclusively to provide the app's core security scanning features:
• Camera and depth data: Hidden camera detection
• Magnetic field data: Electronic device detection
• Bluetooth data: Suspicious BLE device identification
• Network data: Local network device discovery and analysis
• Speed test data: Internet connection performance measurement
4. Data Retention
• Sensor data (camera, magnetometer, Bluetooth, compass) is processed in real-time and discarded immediately after use.
• LAN scan history is stored locally on your device until you delete the app.
• Speed test results are held in memory only during your app session.
5. Data Security
All sensitive data processing occurs locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store your data. Network communications with third-party services (speed test, IP lookup) use HTTPS encryption. Local network scanning may use unencrypted connections as required to communicate with local devices.
6. Children's Privacy
SafeScan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
7. Third-Party Services
Our app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
• Adapty (subscription management): https://adapty.io/privacy
• ipify.org (IP detection): https://www.ipify.org
• ipapi.co (IP geolocation): https://ipapi.co/privacy
• Ookla Speedtest servers (speed testing): https://www.speedtest.net/about/privacy
8. Your Rights
Since your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it. You can delete all app data by uninstalling SafeScan.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
