Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-04-04
SafeScan is a QR scanning application. This policy explains what data is accessed, why permissions are needed, and how data is handled.
Data Collection
SafeScan does not collect personal data on external servers.
SafeScan does not include user tracking or analytics SDKs by default.
Scanned QR content is stored locally on your device to provide scan history.
Permissions and Usage
Camera
Used to scan QR codes in real time.
Location (Fine Location)
Required by Android when connecting to Wi-Fi networks from QR data using platform APIs.
SafeScan does not use location for tracking.
Wi-Fi State / Change Wi-Fi State
Used only to initiate temporary Wi-Fi connection requests from scanned Wi-Fi QR codes.
On modern Android versions, these connections can be temporary due to system limitations.
Contacts
SafeScan can save scanned contact details (name, phone, email) directly to your phone's contacts after you confirm in a preview dialog.
SafeScan requires the WRITE_CONTACTS permission to save contacts directly.
No contacts are saved without your explicit confirmation.
Data Storage
All scan history is stored locally on your device database.
No cloud upload is performed by default.
Advertising
SafeScan displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob.
AdMob may collect and use device identifiers (such as Advertising ID), IP address, and general usage data to serve relevant ads.
This data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
You can opt out of personalized ads via your device's settings (Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization).
SafeScan does not share any personal data with advertisers directly.
Third-Party Services
SafeScan uses the following third-party services:
Google ML Kit — on-device barcode scanning (no data sent to servers)
Google AdMob — ad serving (see Advertising section above)
Android platform APIs — Wi-Fi, contacts, and other system features
For more information on how Google processes data, visit: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
Children
SafeScan is not directed specifically at children under 13.
Security
Reasonable safeguards are used to keep local app data protected on-device.
Your Choices
You can deny permissions, but related features may not work:
Deny camera: live scanning disabled.
Deny location: Wi-Fi connect from QR may fail.
You can clear app data from Android settings to remove stored scan history.
Contact
For policy questions, publish your support contact email in your Play Store listing and replace this section with that address.
Policy Updates
This policy may be updated over time. Any changes will be reflected in the effective date above.
