Full professor @ TU Eindhoven
Cassio obtained his degrees from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), where he studied both at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Mechatronics. He also obtained a Senior Research Qualification from Utrecht University (2018), Senior Member of ACM (2019), and elected member of the executive board of sipta.org (2011-2021). His habilitation and doctorate theses were carried out on the topic of Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence, in particular related to robust and interpretative machine learning models. He works on foundations of artificial intelligence and statistical machine learning, including probabilistic graphical models, imprecise probability, and computational complexity. From 2001, Cassio held different lectureship positions in Brazil. In 2006, Cassio became an Assistant Professor at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). In 2007-08, he was a visiting research fellow at the Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (USA). From 2008 to 2014, he was a (senior) researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute in Switzerland. From 2014 to 2017, he was a Reader at Queen’s University Belfast (UK), and later an Associate Professor at Utrecht University, before joining TU/e in 2019. Cassio has served as reviewer and panelist of multiple research foundations (Canada, Belgium, UK, USA, Netherlands, Brazil, Austria, France) and senior committee/area chair of major AI/ML conferences, as well as area editor of IJAR. He organised multiple events and recently was a program chair of UAI 2021, and served as a general chair in 2022.
Deputy Director of CSIT @ Queen's University Belfast
Professor Paul Miller is currently Director of Momentum One Zero, Deputy Director of the Centre for Secure Information Technologies and Director of the CyberAI Hub at Queen’s University Belfast. He has been PI/Co-I on research grants worth £12M/£26M. He is the author of more than one hundred and thirty published articles. His main research focus is on the security of artificial intelligence (AI) including formal verification and out-of-distribution detection. Other areas of interest include the application of AI to cyber and physical security, biomedical image analysis and animal behaviour analysis. Specific areas of expertise are probabilistic modelling, deep learning neural networks, graph mining and evidential reasoning networks. Applications include malware detection on Android platforms, website vulnerability analysis, video surveillance, AI-enabled pathology for cancer detection and animal welfare. He has also worked on insurance fraud detection and insider threat in banks. He has collaborated with many SMEs and with major security and finance companies.
