Introduction
Safe Study AI provides a private AI tutoring experience that helps you turn scanned schoolwork into interactive study guides and learn via Socratic-style guidance. This Privacy Policy explains what information Safe Study AI collects, how it is used, and how you can control it. Please read it before using the app.
Key privacy points
On-device processing: Safe Study AI runs its AI model locally on your device after initial setup—no cloud inference by default.
No account required: You can use the app without creating an account, signing in, or providing personal identifiers.
Minimal data collection: The app does not collect personal data or send user study content to remote servers, except where you explicitly choose to enable a network feature (e.g., downloading a model, or opting into remote features).
Local storage only: Scanned pages, generated guides, and study history are stored locally on your device.
No third‑party sharing: We do not sell or share your personal study content to third parties.
What information the app accesses and why
Files / Storage: The app stores scanned images and generated guides locally so you can review and re-use them. Permission: required for saving and reading files on-device.
Camera: Required to scan documents and capture pages for conversion into study guides. Camera images are processed on-device and saved locally only.
Network/Internet: Used only for optional actions you initiate, such as downloading the local model files, checking for updates, or optional cloud features if you enable them. Model inference is local by design unless you explicitly enable a remote service.
Device information: Basic device identifiers or capabilities (e.g., RAM detection) are read locally to choose the appropriate model variant; this is not used to create a user profile. No persistent device identifiers are transmitted by default.
How we use your data
On‑device processing: Scanned pages and study guides are processed and stored locally to generate questions, summaries, and learning prompts.
Optional downloads: Model files or updates you choose to download may be fetched from remote servers; download logs are limited to making the download succeed and are not tied to your identity.
Crash reporting & analytics: The app does not enable crash reporting or analytics by default. If you enable diagnostics or opt into telemetry in-app, only minimal technical data may be collected to improve app stability (details will be shown at opt-in).
Sharing and disclosure
No selling or sharing: We do not sell or share your study content to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.
Legal requests: We may disclose information if required by law (e.g., valid court order or law enforcement request). We will notify you unless prohibited by law.
Security
Local storage: Data is stored on your device. Protect your device with standard device-level security (PIN, biometric, encryption).
Key storage (developer note): Signing keys and developer credentials are never included in the released app. Keep your keystore secure.
Third-party services
Optional downloads and updates may use third-party CDNs or hosting providers to serve model files. These downloads are initiated by you and are not tied to your personal identity by the app. If you enable any optional cloud feature, we’ll disclose which third-party services are used.
Children and educational settings
If the user is a child, a parent or guardian should review and approve use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
Your choices and controls
No account: Since Safe Study AI works without accounts, you can delete local guides and scanned pages from within the app to remove your content.
Delete local data: Go to the app’s settings or storage UI to remove saved guides, scanned pages, AI model and caches.
Data retention
Local data: Your guides and scans remain on-device until you delete them. Optional caches or temporary files may be cleared by the app or by you.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
