Department of Biological Sciences

Aliah University, Kolkata 700160

Hi everyone, after completing my Bachelors and Masters in Biotechnology with Distinction at both levels from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, I pursued my PhD from National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. My doctoral thesis work focused on analyzing the human Y chromosome in males exposed to heavy metals; arsenic (West Bengal) and chromium (Kanpur).

I was thereon associated with undergraduate teaching and research at Sri Venkateswara College and Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, University of Delhi as Assistant Professor (2012-17) before joining Aliah University in September 2017.

At Aliah University, I am the In-Charge of Clinical and Applied Genomics Laboratory (CAGe Lab) wherein we are focussing on developing a database for microsatellites for viral genomes. A beta version is being developed and tested at present. We have also analyzed the evolutionary path of emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and correlation between viral mutations and clinical manifestations. My research group at Aliah includes three full time PhD scholars and eight Masters dissertation students as of now. Further, we will be shortly starting the work to explore the role of genetic polymorpohisms and relative expression in cancer onset and progression.
