The Pipeline

Formula SAE is a world-renowned collegiate design competition organized by SAE International that challenges student teams to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small, high-performance formula-style race cars. An IC and Electric car are built and raced each year.

Baja SAE designs and builds rugged, single-seat off-road vehicles to survive some of the harshest terrains imaginable. Students focus on suspension geometry, drivetrain durability, and structural integrity to compete in grueling endurance races and technical obstacle courses.

Bolt designs and builds, and races high-performance, all-electric motorcycles and dirt bikes. Members push the limits of EV technology through custom battery packaging and powertrain development to prove that electric vehicles can outperform traditional combustion engines on the track. 

Solar Car designs and builds high-performance electric vehicles powered entirely by the sun to compete in cross-country endurance rallies like the American Solar Challenge. Members focus on pushing the boundaries of energy management, aerodynamics, and sustainable technology to prove that solar power is a viable future for mobility. 

HEVT is a team focused on re-engineering production vehicles, like the Cadillac LYRIQ, into advanced hybrids and EVs for the EcoCAR EV Challenge. Members work on the cutting edge autonomous features and high-efficiency propulsion systems to tackle real-world energy and environmental challenges. 

Grand Touring at Virginia Tech modifies late-model production cars to compete in high-stakes endurance events. Members apply engineering principles to aerodynamics, braking, and suspension systems to transform a standard vehicle into a race-ready machine capable of surviving wheel-to-wheel competition for up to 24 hours.
